probably wont get a reply but whats the point of playing the em chord if you don't pick either of those two strings? I could just be missing something but id love some help with that question. loved the vid and thanks

You're right - no need to finger the chord as you're picking the open strings. It's habit really as I'm thinking Em and you will need to finger the chord if you're strumming along instead of picking.
