For me, as a GM, the greatest thing Fate taught me was the Fate Fractal. In the Fate Fractal everything can be modeled as an aspect and skills, but not the same skills as the players. For example, a desert has the skill Cause Thirst at 3 for an easy desert, and it would have the aspect Traveling Dunes of Zeris, which can be invoked to confuse the players about their location.

@@gedece this is a great point the fractal is extremely interesting tech I do think that it feels tricky for people to use I do wish that there were more published modules that did a good job of using them

Still my favourite system for playing pulp narratives with action in them. We did use the new initiative system that is recommended in Fate Condensed, but we chose to stick with the funky multi-stress boxes in Fate Core because they feel more fun.

Using or reading Fate Core is like Reading DND red Box. Why look at red box? You should only read the updated rules, AKA Fate Condensed. You should only read Fate Condensed.

This is… a pretty weird take. Condensed is good but it’s extremely short. It’s almost like a summary for people who understand the rules already. There are a few minor rules differences but IIRC it’s < 1/2 page…. Stress boxes are the only thing I can think of and that’s trivial.

I find it valuable to have both as a resource, personally, but I do agree that condensed explains things better. The rule differences are minor, and calling it a separate version or anything like that is considerably overstating it.
