This is a great quick break down of what you can actually do with garage band. I tend to shy away from it even though I make music primarily with a phone. I never found the ease of use to be that great but these tips make me want to go back into garage band.

If you want to extend the range of the virtual guitar, you can go into the edit MIDI function and move the notes up an octave or two.

The tip for changing amps is fantastic. That opens up a load of possibilities. Speaking as a guitarist, I tend not to use this touch instrument. The glissando sounds unnatural to me. It is handy for non-guitarists and for trying out some chord changes when writing. It’s one of the things I love about GarageBand: being able to explore instruments you don’t play. I used keys on my #songtember song, which I probably wouldn’t even have thought of without touch instruments.

How do we strum in Guitar ..in Garage Band ? .the way we do in our physical guitars ....what ever custom strumming we want ...? Or do we need to get anyo other Audio Unit Extension ? Or a Physical Acostic Guitar is best to play Guitar and Record....because quick custom playing lead in Guitar is also difficult in Garage band..... because we move very easily in Physical Guitar .... GeoShred is good for App for Leads but not Strumming Chords....I think For Strumming Chords, Physical Acoustic Guitars is best ...what do you think .?

Generally not. Guitar and strings tracks are not standard keyboard tracks, unless you set them up via the keyboard like this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/amPHm5qPlpJsf5o

First I make the instrumental “The Portal” using exotic drums and you drop a video about the exotic drums at nearly the same time. Now I start making a song heavily inspired by DragonForce - very guitar heavy stuff so I’m having to work with the GarageBand virtual guitars... and here you suddenly drop this video about the GarageBand virtual guitars.... I guess we must have great minds! That or you’ve bugged my iPad somehow and know everything I’m doing 🤔 🧐
@PeteJohnsMusic

It’s both. 😄 It was actually that I looked back and realised I’d been talking about either Songtember or iOS 13 for the last month and wanted to return to an actual music creation tutorial. And my studio’s a mess so I needed something off camera. 😊

Other than moving your finger up and down on the fretboard, do you know how to make a pick drag in GarageBand? Is it even possible? If not I can plug my real guitar in.

Not really possible with the virtual guitar sorry. You’d be best to use a real guitar or find an audio file to import.

Hey there. Unfortunately the strings and other instruments are not compatible so you can’t copy and paste between them.

Pete Johns man, that’s unfortunate. It does seem though that an electric guitar like the “wah”whatever it’s called has the normal scale like a normal string track does, so I guess I can still use that. It’ll take a longer time, but it can be done. Thanks!

Hi Pete. Is the 4 options only on the new update? As you know I’m still stuck at 12.4.? Because of the sonic port issue. Also, have you noticed any odd behaviour since updating and, is GarageBand greatly improved over the previous version. So I know if I’m missing anything that would make a reasonable difference? Thanks. Great vid for the beginners and those with some experience🖌
