I'm planning to get a lyre soon, I am so excited I've been binge-watching videos. I got a 10 string since I plan on playing some anglo-Saxton folk. This video was really helpful and information-packed!

I like to take a break from the harp and use my fingers in a different manor but keeping my music. I like practicing the melody by ear before I go to the harp. I have even composed a couple phrases myself. I can grab it quickly and take it in the car, for family or park. Each time I play, I become more familiar and I am starting to become interested in a chromatic. We shall see. I enjoy your channel Sharon, it has opened my eyes for alternative but similar instruments, and the many methods of playing. Thank You

Thank you! I’m partially bed ridden and looking for hobbies I can do whilst lying down. And the lyre looks perfect! I was debating between the 7 & 16 string lyre. I’d love to play anything from Celtic folk songs all the way to classical and Spanish music or anything I think of frankly lol. I appreciate your advice about the 7 string lyre, I feel like it would get boring or frustrating because of its lack of range. So I’m gonna go with the 16 string. Thank you! I don’t have a lot of music experience, a bit of guitar but it’s hard for me to play because of my health. I can’t read music or know music theory. But I appreciate that each string only has one note unlike a guitar which has like 20 frets per string 🤮 lol. Each string only having one note makes the lyre much less intimidating. Even with 16 strings! Which is really nice!

i want to get a lyre so bad, because not only do i sing, but i find the music that lyres make to be very calming and beautiful. i never would’ve even known that they existed if it wasn’t for the game Genshin Impact; which aren’t HUGE on lyres, but they do expose the player to them quite a bit. there’s a character that i’ve fallen in love with in that game because we’re so much alike and i find so much of myself in him, and so my main reason for wanting it is so i can embrace that side of me and “become” him. the other reason is just because it’s simply gorgeous sounding. same with the kalimba. plus; it’ll be my first time playing an instrument ☺️

I’m planning to get a lyer because I’ve had played the violin for 8 years and I haven’t played it in 5 years and I miss playing instrument. I’ve always played a instrument and not playing a instrument that I enjoy and affordable is really hard but a lyer seems so beautiful and the price is reasonable. I’m so excited to learn a instrument again. Maybe when I have the money I can pick up a violin again 😂😂😂

I think you will like the lyre. It's easy to play just a lot of tuning with all the strings 😉💕
@TheMtnmamma2 жыл бұрын
I have been contemplating getting a lyre for years. If I get one, I will definitely be on your channel often one of my biggest questions is I have a lot of music I have invested in for the tin whistle, it’s mostly in the key of D or G. Can you tune a C Lyre to the key of D or G?
@learningthelyreharp2 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely. You can tune to G by setting all the F in sharps and to D by setting all Cs and Fs to sharp. The only limitations are accidentals. For these you will need to work around it by just ignoring them or playing the note below or above which ever sounds best to your ears

Which lyre is your favorite? I play autoharp and some piano, so have some music background. I want to use it to accompany myself singing and possibly use in nursing home for hymns or just meditative therapy. I like mellow, rich tones - not too bright.
@learningthelyreharp Жыл бұрын
The box lyres have brighter sounds than the hollow lyres. I also have the acrylic lyre which I love because it has a way of carrying out the tones and sustaining them longer. I would suggest watching videos of the different types of lyres played so you can see which type you like best. I have been very fortunate with my lyres and only had issues with the Molin 24 the rest are still in good shape and keeping in tune for me. These are budget lyres and mass produced so the quality can be hit and miss. Do purchase from a company that has great return policy in case you need it. Good luck with your search ❤️

Hello, im looking for buy a lyre, when I was a child y played the violin but when I grew, i havnt much time to play. A few mots I started to play Kalimba (17 keys) but I ever liked the Grese history, when I was a child, I dreamed that I could learn to play Lyre but youtube didnt exist and never found any teacher in my citiy so, when I discovered your chanel the hope came to me but Im not sure what Lyre buy, im interesed to play the same song that I play in the 17 keys kalimba, im interest to play classical, instrumental, lofi hip hop and celtic music. Could you advise me what lyre buy? thanks for read (my inglish is so rusty sry), see you in your videos and website :)
@learningthelyreharp3 жыл бұрын
Your English is very good. If you are looking to play songs similar to what you play now on Kalimba and play melodically, I suggest looking for a lyre with at least 16 or more strings. This will get you playing songs you already enjoy on your kalimba and just need to practice on technique and flow. Wish you all the best 😊

I was thinking of getting a Lyre to pluck at while I sing, but the whole 7/10/16 strings thing and the fact that all the ones I can find that allow you to play with both hands freely/are of decent quality cost like $500 which is really daunting... not to mention I've read a lot of contradicting reviews....some say to get one with a soundbox, but the one that's the most recommended has a "bowl" instead? The only consistent thing they all say is "check the reviews" but reviews can be falsely created! Idk....I probably won't buy anything bc I'm adhd and hyperfixations come and go. I was just curious I guess

Can you recommend any singular step or video or book that can help me learn how to read music? Anything you wish you knew before you first started learning music?
@learningthelyreharp2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback :) The process to read music is the same for all instruments. There are lots of resources on google search as well as on KZbin. I created a few videos on this subject that are specific for playing the lyre. It just narrows down the learning and focuses it on the notes that are specific to lyres. You should be able to find it by clicking on the playlist. Also check out the learningthelyreharp.com for additional resources in the guides section. Hope this helps❤️

You're wrong there. The best available liar is my ex-husband. LOL 😆. That on a more serious note., Do you recommend not buying a second hand instrument through the mail?
@learningthelyreharp2 жыл бұрын
You're funny 😁 I only have one experience with buying a second hand lyre and it didn't go well for me. This is likely also because the brand I bought is not a good one to begin with and others who bought it new also had troubles. But if you do find a good solid build lyre at a good price it may be worth the gamble. Good lyres, hand made by luthiers are hard to come by as second hand at least from where I am. I have been keeping my eyes open 😊

I want a lyre that is cruelty-free, meaning no animal had to die for my instrument...it's wrong. So what lyre do you suggest for a non-musician who wants the lyre for prayer, meditation and healing?
@learningthelyreharp6 ай бұрын
Most lyre harps are made with wood and metal components. I wouldn’t know any of the specifics and be able to confirm cruelty free as most of these are mass produced in China. If you would like to go on the safer side, I would suggest contacting a luthier that hand produces each lyre and can build exactly to your specifications. All lyres work for prayer, healing and meditation. If you want to play music strictly by improvisation and feel, pentatonic lyres are great. If you want to play melodically and follow music, 16 and more strings would be advisable.
