This was really weird for me. The moment you said "Wesley turns on the style", his first move, f4-f5, just felt wrong. I was expecting Nf3, but when f4-f5 came I only had one candidate move for Black: Bg5, pinning the knight on d2, which just looked so unpleasant for White. I assume White must abandon all priorities at that point and devote every resource to dislodging the bishop from the diagonal, since otherwise Black is just sitting on White like a WWF wrestler. So I assume something like h4 Be3 Rhe1, and the bishop will have to leave (or exchange for the knight on d2). Then White may return to Nf3, but it's slower without the tempo, and Black's bishop will be in a better spot for his attack. I didn't check any of that, just a fleeting impression as you were speaking, but I thought very strange not to mention it. Bg5 just seems so obvious, using the square left behind by White's f4-f5.

Thank you. I know that ...Be7 is called "Alatorsev" variation which we saw in the title 1963 match between Botvinnik and Petrosian.
@PowerPlayChess

Many Soviet players played 3...Be7 and I have seen the move credited to others as well. In fact the idea goes way back to the early 20th century.

I always find it impressive how stronger players do like Wesley So did here and just whip up an attack seemingly out of nowhere when it looks like their pieces aren't ready. When he played queen c1 it just looked weirdly passive to me and I didn't imagine that queen would be moving to h6 in a couple of moves.

Thank you for this great video! You have the gift of breaking down complex positions so that even a humble club player like myself can follow. My only claim to fame is that I'm the president of Austria's only women's chess club (www.frau-schach.at). BTW, I love your videos on Chessable. Any plans for more videos in the "How good is your chess?" series? The "Tournament Ready" series is excellent, too.

Madam President! Thank you for your kind words. I am currently working on another course for Chessable: The Kalashnikov. I hope to finish in the next couple of months. The 'How Good Is Your Chess' series is ongoing - but the next edition will arrive later in the year. The frau-schach.at location looks splendid: echtes Kaffeehaus Schach! I always enjoyed visiting Vienna.

We need more chess clubs for women. I used to play a little in the 80s but chess clubs were mostly in spit-and-sawdust pubs dominated by beer beards and blokes who would sulk if you beat them; no nostlgia here :-)

Chess.com does this and it honestly doesn't belong on this channel. If this is what brings the views and subs, Agadmator wouldn't be the top chess channel. It is the content that matters and not frivolous entertainment. GM King if you're listening, you are the absolute top at explaining things. BOOM is so out of your character, it is not worth it.

I think it's one of those things that is now associated with the 'twitch' side of chess but shouldn't be. Many strong chess players have used exclamations like 'BOOM' to annotate sacrifices for a long long time - doesn't seem cringey to me!
