You’ve absolutely smashed it here Jeremy.I often read people discussing this song;the notes,the tuning the guitar and yet no one has solved the mysteries to this level imo.What a fantastic piece of music…Ry using the slide in virtually a completely different context than it had ever been used before,and not just making it work but absolutely killing it.There’s a question actually:does anybody know of anyone using the electric slide in any other way than blues/pedal steel/Hawaiian before Cooder came along?

Thanks again - and let’s not forget that it was you who pointed out the lack of videos covering this part! Think we first spoke of it a year ago….good thing it wasn’t time sensitive. I wondering about your question on early electric slide players. Sister Morphine was ‘68…so someone before that….need to think on this

Cheers Mark, that's much appreciated. I got covid on Christmas eve (merry Xmas!) so needed a little boost! Hope you find this useful. I think in retrospect, I could have just done a video of a few of the highlights instead of a bar-by-bar. But, in any case, it was a good project!

It’s a mystery! 😁 But actually aren’t they pretty different?

After decades of teaching people how to play Ive come to a conclusion. If they cant figure it out from a record by themselves, maybe the instrument is not for them. Cool vid BTW.

I’ve struggled for a long time to do that tbh.I can play…maybe to an intermediate standard.But it’s just copying and never feels “right” or natural.You need to know why your playing what you’re playing-even instinctively-otherwise it’s just techniques strung together.I notice it most when I’m in a band with people that can play.
@JeremyJames_studio Жыл бұрын
You might be right about that…but I think many people who could do it can’t be bothered! Sometimes I just want the part of the song without going into the weeds so i’ll hop on youtube and find it. Figuring out parts and getting them up to speed though, is a tremendous way to practice and improve. It’s why I do it. I choose parts I’ve always wanted to play and then just pass on what I figure out. I sometimes think I know a part until I play it back and I hear how much more work I need to put in! Anyways interesting stuff, thanks for the comment.
