How To Play To High C On Bass Clarinet

Thank you so much my bass clarinet is a used one. The barrel doesn’t go out n all the way, one of the Kay’s don’t go down all the way, and I can go one about so many things.

Every way of practicing is helpful. Also checking the height of the bass clarinet - better not to have to lift up head when taking the mouthpiece in mouth (affects the throat, jaws and the back of the tongue).

Agreed about lifting the head when playing the bass. You want to bring the bass to you while keeping your head at a comfortable, normal position. As for practicing, I'm an advocate of smart, efficient practicing. Sadly, I have seen students who have practiced very hard, but poorly, and have created many bad habits and problems for themselves. :(

I have to submit something for my band but whenever I play a high c and g it just squeaks. I tried changing reeds, adjusting my stand, adjusting my ligature, making sure everything it tighten, but it still isn’t playing the note

Me too, and I started playing the bass a month ago

Try a harder reed if you haven’t already, if that doesn’t help best to get the clarinet serviced

What do I do if the note feels like it gets stuck in the bass? Like I would play F and it feels like the air gets caught but when release the octave key to just takes a second and when the air goes through it feels like a punch 😭
