This is so helpful! I am the keyboard player in a cover band and I was asked to "cover the fiddle part" of this song. I know there is no way that I can sound as good as a real violin, but I would have never figured out what I should be playing without your explanation of the open strings.

Hey Michael thank you! You'll get it! Just keep playing sometimes it helps to write some cheat notes out but the more you rock it out it will commit to memory naturally. 👏👏 Thank you! I've got an RV5PRO which is an electrified acoulstic 5 string violin from the shop David Gage Strings / also they're sister store FInlay and Gage. These strings are aahhhh hahah I can't remember what I had on there last year but it was probably a pack from D'addario I really like the Helicores and the Zyex from them - the Preludes are a bit more on the affordable side and are good as well.

Haha I love this question! Sorry Mike for the late response. The top ten is tough but I can definitely give you a top 5 how's that? Here's the top 5 songs that people request when I'm onstage doing bar gigs or gigging with bands that are doing covers! 1. The Devil Went Down to Georgia 2. Wagon Wheel 3. Orange Blossom Special 4. "A song by Tyler Childers" 5. Metallica/Slayer/Hip Hop/ etc. haha

Maybe you could reply? What brand & model is your fiddle? Also, is there a list anywhere of country or bluegrass tunes that the fiddle plays mostly all through? Not having success finding such using most requested. yes. this has got to be number one and you have the best vid for this tune and deliver it so very pleasantly / enjoyable to watch.

Hey Mike - I'm so sorry for the late response to you! My fiddle is the RV5PRO by David Gage Strings also they're sister store Finlay + Gage - It's an electric/acoustic 5 string violin. Thank you so much for the comment I"m really glad this vid has been helpful! You mean a list of songs that maybe has a singer but also a fiddle part that I could do a video on that is not just the intro or solo ? Or are you looking for specifically bluegrassy fiddle songs that are/can be instrumental and just fiddle like Orange Blossom Special or Boil Em Cabbage ? Lmk hopefully this reply to your comment is not too late of a reply! Hope you're well and happy fiddlin!

@@Kellsstringz A little difficult to put in words ...It's a desire for a given instrument to play through start to finish instead of a few seconds. Country & bluegrass or gospel. Grandson is learning the violin in school and do young and irresponsible mom has him keep it at school or it gets neglected as in found in a open case on a cold back porch. I'm not into classical and he looked at me confused when I called it a fiddle, ha, ha! I've never played fiddle but thought may e if I took it up it would encourage him but the time has passed. I'm a ,usic style junkie . Can't ever get good when you try to cover ,multiple styles as in country, country gospel, delta blues, bluegrass and grew up with ,mostly rock . The Hendrix, lived a few blocks away, never knew Jimi but his dad Al, had a smile that stays with me and makes ,e grin. Recently the flamenco bug has struck so I'm looking at budget flamenco guitars but think a Alvarez RC 26HCE will suffice and it's cheaper than the Yamaha that gets many good reviews but doesn't sound as nice. Yeah, it's a classical but from what I've heard online it should work. Naturally it doesn't come with a tap plate for rumba as it's classical but the top seems to project the tapping better than the Yamaha 171 & 182 and the cutaway makes for easier access. Love your playing.
