I just learned today that Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher wrote this song. I love Billy’s version as well as Joe Cocker’s. Wish I knew about Billy’s when I first heard Joe’s.

Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys actually is an uncredited writer on the Billy Preston original track. Beautiful song in general

Neighbor gave me a nice piano a few months after my first daughter was born…. Just finished learning the 8 keys for Kanye’s song, run away… now I somehow find myself here and have a whole new appreciation for a song I already have loved since the little rascal days. Listening to the keys opened a whole new world to music. Now I will try to learn the chores to play for her when she’s older. Wish me luck lol I’d say I have no experience but… I know a Kanye song😂

Billy Preston?! I didn't know he wrote this! Thanks for the 411. He's legit. I first heard of him after watching the Beatles "rooftop" concert. He's playing piano with them. "Get Back" in particular is "groovy". Def worth a look and listen

I think I first heard about Billy Preston listening to the 2001 Eric Clapton’s concert tour « One More Car, One More Rider ». Later, I heard about his gospel compositions or renditions and of course, discovered that he actually wrote « You are So Beautiful to Me » before the Joe Cocker’s version (which version is featured in the movie Carlito’s Way and has an excellent and powerful piano/vocal live version in a 1992 Joe Cocker’s concert in Germany). There is a great Billy Preston’s live version in Germany, too.

although Billy Preston wrote this song, it was the late great Nicky Hopkins playing piano on this Joe cocker version, he came up (in my opinion) with one of the most beautiful intros to any song ever in this song

Hii It would really help me out if someone could help me with the following question: Im not very experienced with the sustain pedal (I just started playing piano) (great lessons btw👌🏼) so I have a hard time trying to use it because I dont know how to use it in the songs. So my question is : where can I find something that tells me when and how I have to use the pedal in all the songs you guys teach me/us? Great vids and lessons, keep up the great work. 💯 thanks for the help
@HDpiano7 жыл бұрын
Two answers. 1.) Watch this video for an applicable overview: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXnNlIebabCDeaM and 2.) Our new graphics feature sustain pedal information! Check this one out, when the background is lighter, Devon is depressing the pedal :)

@HDpiano3 жыл бұрын
It's in Ab! But it uses the Gb chord, which is the lowered 7th scale degree (bVII). So you're right, that's outside of the key, strictly speaking.

Sorry you’re not happy with our pacing- we’re constantly searching for the perfect speed to suit as many learners as possible. The video player at HDpiano.com lets you slow down playback-from mobile AND desktop-for all videos. We also built a custom looping tool that allows the viewer to focus on those extra challenging spots. Your teaching method is most tedious, young man. People Just want to learn to play a Song, and are not intereses in music theory. Nwvertheless, excelent video. This Song was a festure in the soundtrack of "Carlitos Way" with Al Pacino.

Within the first 15 seconds we cite the songwriters: Preston and Fisher. All props to Billy Preston, certainly! (1:13) This tutorial is covering the Joe Cocker version, though.
