My granpda got me into DOS in 1990...we used to go to conventions and buy/trade old floppy disk programs with folks and spent so much time together playing Hoyle's Book of Games & Police Quest. I flew back from Afhhanistan in 2013 to be by his side when he passed, and we got to reminisce about all those times. Truly a great memory that you stirred up today, Dweeb...thank you!

I’ll admit Wolfenstein 3D or Catacombs was the first game to give me motion sickness. A good number of FPS games didn’t give me that problem. But yeah Descent was a nightmare! It really got me dizzy and nauseated. We had limited access and at times no access to internet so it was a while later I found out that changing the screen size will reduce motion sickness. It really helped.

The DOOM story takes me back. I had a similar story where I had to decide between Win3.11 and DOS games - on my original computer, I also had to play at a small size; and did similar things - then came DoubleSpace and that allowed me both Windows and ONE DOS game - DOOM was the game.

Great content, and video series. Here is my DOOM story. One of the first games I bought in 1995 was DOOM, and yes it was the floppy drive version like you had. My neighbor asked if she could borrow it to play. I said sure since I already had it installed on my PC. She didn't return it, so after about a week I went to her house to get my box and game back. I had no idea that she was a chain smoker, and the box just reeked of cigarettes. I had to leave it in the garage for weeks to get rid of that smell (which I hate). I never let her know when I bought a new game again.

I had a buddy in 1995 who played Doom on some kind of 386 with no soundcard -- small window with huge frame was needed, but also the sound was just little bleeps and blips coming from the actual PC motherboard. My favorite "original" ish Doom experience in the past few years has been Doom 64 on Steam. Excellent game (although you better find the secret levels along the way if you want any hope of beating that final boss). My favorite Doom-like is currently Supplice, a GZDoom full conversion with massive maps.

How is the performance for all different games? Because by gog dosbox are always different settings of cpu and cycles. How you manage one settings for all games on your dweep_dos?
@TechDweeb6 ай бұрын
I change cycles on the fly. I explained this in the last video, but you can press ctrl+f12 to speed up the clock cycles, and ctrl+f11 to slow them down. So if I launch a game and it doesn't have great performance I will play around with the cycles to get it perfect. Obviously this is all better if you set your options on a game by game basis but what I like about Dosbox Staging is that it has good CPU compatibility across the board so you rarely need to tweak anything. Out of the 100+ games that I've downloaded only maybe 5 of them need me to adjust the cycles.
