OMG. This has to be the longest most thorough tutorial on You Tube with a long boring bit at the start. :-)

Excellent step by step instructions 👍 Tried to install on a Pi Zero but it was too slow and would take forever to install. So I installed and set it all up on my micro SD card in the raspberry pi 3b+ first. Then took the micro SD card from the raspberry pi 3b+ and placed into the pi zero and it all works ok. Thanks again David

I already have a music server running using subsonic, is there a way I can do the same thing but with subsonic?

Caroline that is GREAT .... I love using the R Pi for things ( I guess you could use a R Pi Zero WiFi as well for your media server =)

Thanks for sharing a good tutorial. What I found was streaming from pi seemed very slow. So I installed Plex on my linux workstation to pair with Alexa and now it is much faster.

I used to enjoy his site for installing software and learning how things worked, but I have lost all audio on my android. Does anyone else have this problem?

I installed My Media back in 2018 for the same reason (Amazon no longer accepting uploads), however, I had 28,000 tracks uploaded to Amazon (!!) and I paid a fee to have them up there. My Media hasn't changed much since 2018 and in some respects seems like an unfinished app. There are capabilities that it should have that it does not (principally, the music can only be controlled via voice through Echo. I have an opera with 147 tracks. If I want to start with track 140, I can only get there by saying "next" 139 times....that is really dumb!!). But recently, Amazon has been randomly deleting my uploads (which it promised to preserve if I opted in back in September, 2018). So albums that were actually played frequently are either no longer there or 7 of 10 tracks are suddenly gone...no communication...no warning. I have 11 Echo devices around the house. Most of them are used for smart home tasks, but 3 or 4 of them have gotten a lot of music use. So I have gone back to My Media (which, as I say, has not improved since 2018) and am setting up the names of certain albums in my Apple Music collection with names that I can both remember AND that Alexa can understand (my albums are mostly classical and the names can get rather complicated). So I have changed the names on a number of albums to ease voice access. But I still have no control over which track is played (either on my iPhone or my Mac browser app). I can "see" what's being played, but I can't control it. The same collection used for My Media works with PLEX and my PLEX music is pointed toward the same Apple Music Media list...but PLEX is no more facile than My Media in selecting particular tracks from an entire album. However, I have run into situations where PLEX will play the album but My Media reports that my server is off-line (which obviously it isn't or PLEX wouldn't be able to play it either). I wish there were an Echo Version of PlexAMP (which I use in my car via CarPlay) with finer tuning on selecting particular tracks. I would love to put this whole server mess on a Raspberry, but the collection is now 640Gb and that exceeds any SD card I know about. So I am running it off a dedicated HP Elite Slice (Windows 10)...and that's all that computer does is "serve." PS: Your videos on both My Media & PLEX are excellent.

Why can't there be a setting to tell alexa to JUST play the sound and NOT announce that it will be playing! It is so annoying! Does anyone know anyway to get it to stop?

Good tutorial. Is there a way to autoboot to my media for alexa when the raspberry pi boots up . Just in case of power surge, will have to manually lock into the program again. Thanks

Richard Wong No extra steps were needed. I followed this great tutorial. Once everything was up and running, I rebooted the Pi. My Media was accessible via Alexa with no addition action in my part. Autoboot must be the default. I’m loving this thing!

@@ellenconoyer1349 Thanks for the information. I rebooted the Pi and it ends up on the window screens only. Anything I did wrong !. Further feedback is much appreciated.

Sorry I don't know. Just because the MyMedia app doesn't open on the desktop, doesn't mean the MyMedia software isn't running. I've rebooted my Pi running MyMedia numerous times and each time Alexa is able to access MyMedia Server without any action by me on the Pi.

So, honest question, though I know it will sound smart-aleck... not meant as such. Why wouldn't you just connect via bluetooth and play direct from your device. What is the real advantage here? I guess voice control, which could also be achieved through google assistant, or Siri. My biggest question is when this is all accomplished, do you have the capability of playing on Alexa music groups?
@dougjohnson15173 жыл бұрын
Ugghh, that's too many words. I should be able to say "Echo, play Stairway to Heaven". I can control my entire house like this, but can't play a local mp3.

This is the most stupid thing that I've ever had the displeasure of going through. Almost everyone has a phone nowadays. Why the heck would they want to stream music from their computer to an Amazon device. Why not just allow you to stream music from your PHONE?! I know it allows spotify and stuff, but not every song I have is available on spotify. Some is on Spotify, KZbin, or Soundcloud. If I can literally connect my device via bluetooth to my Amazon Echo, why shouldn't I be able to command songs or playlists on it?
