I happen to live in Grand Rapids also, last year I bought a Garant snow scoop. Its a terriffic tool. You can move a lot of snow by hand way more than a conventional shovel. Also using the scoop as opposed to my little snowblower I dont get snow up in the wind blowing back in my face , I hate that! I dont have a big drive but my drive is 4 car widths so when the plow comes through its always right after I shovel. (You plow guys are great at that by the way LOL) Anyway with my Garant snow scoop I cleared the end of my drive with only a dozen scoops compared to what probably would have been 4 dozen conventional shovels worth. As someone who lived and shoveled in the blizzard of 78 I hate snow. I highly recommend the Garant snow scoop! They cost $59 at Home Depot, I got mine for $50 at Rileys Ace Hardware.

Most of what you said was merely common sense, however, common sense is a rare commodity in today's society. Keep up the good fight and always stay safe. All the best!

You must not have a lot of snow. If you do get bigger dumps, consider a something like a push sled that can hold as much as four times what a shovel can. It is a lot like plowing for the walks. You don’t lift them really, you just push the snow off the walk. This can go on the grass or in the lot if your plowing. I push my walks and slide the snow across the yard to snow piles out of the way. My piles can get massive by season’s end, 6’ high. It is so much faster and and easier. I sold the snow blower and my walks are about 850 Sq ft of walks for my house.

Good video, how many trucks do you run. What do you do with break downs during storm
@MichaelTheakston5 жыл бұрын
9 total, 7 with routes and 2 as backups

When do you start plowing? I usually start right after a storm but in your case I see it’s still coming down. Is there some stuff you can teach me about this?
@MichaelTheakston3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the contract, this site wants it plowed after 1" has fallen. We sometimes plow this site 2-3 times a day and salt the same.

@@MichaelTheakston Are your paid your rate each time in that same day if its 2 or 3 times say for example thats a 500$ lot you could have made 1000-1500? or is that just like 1 bid 500 price up to a certain inch Or certain storm? thanks!!!

How much do you charge for that kinda parking lot?
@MichaelTheakston5 жыл бұрын
I calculated it at $110/hour, so just figure out how long it will take you and multiply it by your hourly rate. Thanks

First time plowing with a Swing wing back blade. Any tips?
@MichaelTheakston5 жыл бұрын
Carry extra shear bolts, hoses and fluid, you will find hidden objects and being without the use of a wing is the worst.

@@MichaelTheakston sounds good! Anything else would be great. I've plowed before but this swing wing is totally different than just a V blade
@MichaelTheakston5 жыл бұрын
What size wing do you have? We have the 16' and 18' we usually plow condo drives with the 16' because the drive is 16 wide and it's a single pull, the 18' we use for loading docks and bigger spaces, get yourself a good wired RV camera with monitor to mount in cab to watch the backblade. Thanks
@LilJustified5 жыл бұрын
It's a 16. I never thought about a camera for the back. I may invest in one!
@MichaelTheakston5 жыл бұрын
This is the camera we use amzn.to/2PXr6e2 just make sure to mount the camera higher than the bumper, because snow will cover it quick. We have them mounted to the back rack, makes a nice bird eye view of your blade.

Wouldn’t doubt it I have a contract with an army base up here in boston, miles of sidewalks, 4 huge lots and I always got a big blunt hanging out my mouth when I’m driving the front loader with the pusher 😂😂🫡☠️
