How to polish a Kirby vacuum

My husband cleans our Kirby G5 with Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish and microfiber towel. I thought he was the only one in the world who cleaned and shined a vacuum. Our Kirby is always spotless.

I took my G5 in for servicing 2 days ago and they wanted to charge me $75 to buff my Kirby. I told them no thank you and so glad I did. I really appreciate your video!

They likely use a machine - a shoe polisher.

The $75 is worth it if you have an older Kirby. The metal is usually too rough to get a perfect finish without a machine buff.

Thank you soooo much. My motto for Housekeeping is “”I cleans whatever cleans for me.”” Who likes dragging out a dirty appliance to clean dirty stuff. My vacuum looks like it is just out of the box. And I don’t dread vacuuming anymore.....very prideful...😉Thank you so much.

I have a 1965 Kirby Dual Sanitronics that I tore down and rebuilt. I bought a can of Mothers aluminum polish several months back the vac looks great!

For the record, this same technique works on the earlier Kirbys too - Legend II, Heritage, Classic, Tradition, Dual Sanitronic and others. It also works on metal Royals.

Its all about aluminum, not Kirby. Its an aluminum polish

@@donschlonski2936 can you tell me what cast aluminum is? I heard Kirbys are cast aluminum.. if they are,why are they so solid? Kirbys feel very strong..

@@kirbysteel2766 cast aluminum is melted aluminum to pour into a mold to get a desired shape. The weight is t from the aluminum it's from the internal motor and transmission parts. That's a good thing!

Problem is when you use the polish you remove the protective coating off the aluminum and it will oxidize quick. You need to get some ceramic wax and apply it to the aluminum to give it a protective coating again.

I Have a Kirby g3 like yours and it needs like scrubs very good and clean but what can I used on it to clean it its like water stains bad all on the metal deal it can be great to get that off and clean?.

Hey guys, don't forget the ArmorAll for the plastic and rubber pieces, and I had some Meguiar's PlastX (clear plastic cleaner & polish for the light cover). Those couple extras made a big difference in addition to polishing.

Dax Marshall As long as it's gental. Maybe the powerball that attaches to your drill. You can find them pretty easy at O'Reilly auto parts.

I have four older Kirbys and twice year I wash all the cloth bags, in cold water, gentle cycle, and double dose of liquid fabric softener in the rinse cycle. If it's summer I hang them outside to dry, if it's winter I dry them for 30 minutes on low, and finish air drying them.

If the threads are broken then u have to order a new one, they are like four dollars on eBay... If the threads are fine u can look up a vid on how to put it on

I just do this: 1. Light sandpaper attack 2. Polish with old, unused toothbrush (with the polishing stuff on)

i would rinse it too. otherwise the chemical stays one. a wax wouldn't hurt afterwards.
