I poured an addition to my driveway about a month ago. It has been a long time since I played in the concrete. I had 70 foot of foundation that I poured first with the inexperienced help from a 68 year old friend. my 3:30 concrete showed up at 4:40 and by the time I got the concrete poured out in my drive addition (6" with rebar) it was setting fast. I had a real tough time getting the aggregate down. I put some water on it and kept hitting with my bull float that hadn't been used 12 or 15 years. Your work looks great. Good job. I'm too old for this now. Well, almost too old.

Never seen a roll of reinforcing mesh before. Done a little concreting here in Australia and engineers have generally specified F72 (which is 7mm bar X 200mm grid spacing). They are always in a rigid sheet 2.4m X 6m (8ft X 20ft). Interesting to see the difference over there.

Beautiful work. Fiber or rebar highly recommended instead of wire mesh for slab on grade. The mesh sags with the weight of steel and is not in tension, thereby loosing it’s function. Also, changing from 3,250 psi to 4,500 psi is well intentioned but not a good idea. This because 4500 is a much stiffer concrete with more tendency to crack as the moisture evaporates. So you generally should not go overboard with a stiffer concrete if it is not required by the project. But, overall, an excellent job.

rent
@bldrummer82875 жыл бұрын
@Jason Poole Yeah I understand that the equipment etc can be rented/contracted. I wasn't trying to be negative, I was simply stating that the video didn't meet my expectations for a "DIY". I thought there might be some information on what the equipment being used is, where to rent it, the relative costs, how to use the equipment... but there's a lot of information not given or glossed over. If I wanted to put in my own slab, I'd need to ask a ton of questions and do a lot of research to learn the things this video didn't cover which means it's not very effective as an informative DIY video. Again, not trying to be overly critical... I liked the video and the slab looks great.

@@bldrummer8287 I agree what I've learned is that you need a crew of experienced guys for anything other than making stepping stones. He puts diy to get views I think. That's how I found this channel. I still like watching though. Learning.

@@captmack007 I guess some people are just not naturally good at at things like this. I pick up things quickly and I'm good with my hands. A little personal sweat saves a LOT of money sometimes.

I am not a construction guy, but I don't get why do you need to cut concrete with some tool for driveways it is wider squares for walkways it is smaller squares. Is it just for aesthetic reasons or serve some other purpose?

Thanks for the video. Very nice work! How come you didn't need to put down a layer of base or subbase? Are you not concerned with cracking over time due to the weight of the vehicles?

I have this urge to fly over to the U.S, wait until you finish a job and leave then sneak in and draw a big hairy Willie in the cement. The look on your face when you came back next day would be priceless.

@Roger Loesch You da man! Bet you're sitting there in your armchair in your wife-beater vest and duds with a cannie in one hand and a slice of pizza in the other. Probably a jobbing builder, in and out of work, most evenings down the boozer propping up the bar trying to scrounge a beer and then to the bookies to throw away your last few dollars on the horses or a game of football.
