Kris, I appreciate your videos and expertise. However, 99% of us "average citizens" cannot afford anything approaching this complexity and expense. Some (many!) of us will survive, electricity being provided by a power bank or two. But the experience will not be comfortable. It will be "toughening." Thanks for the video, and Merry Christmas!!

I had 2 Delta Pro 3 (DP3) units running in parallel with their 50 AMP hub bridge. One of the units was defective and caused a tremendous power surge which fried my HVAC thermostat and ECU, coffee maker, Air Purifier, GFCI outlets, and over a dozen outlet surge protectors and damaged 2, 200 AMP breaker panels. The damages have run into the thousands. One electrician who inspected my system told me that one of his customers had a similar problem with his EF Ultra except that he didn't have the unit hooked up to the home. I like the EF Delta 2 Max batteries, but the EF DP3 and the bridge is not good. $12,000 of damage was done.

I have a Delta 3 plus base unit. I also have 4 EcoFlow 400w solar panels, 2 in parallel for each of the 500w solar inputs, because of shading. It can easily run my 2006 JennAir side by side and 2005 LG front loader washing machine for many hours with solar. I also tested it with my Cosari Air fryer only. No problems! I really appreciate the power. I feel confident with the EcoFlow products and engineering, the software is simple and intuitive. I paid 649 for the Delta 3 plus. Unfortunately I payed way to much for the EF solar panels, but they perform well. Central Florida here 🌴🇺🇸 For the specks, EcoFlow Delta 3 plus 1024w battery, weights 27 pounds, it will run the refrigerator for 4 to 8 hours depending on ambient temp on battery alone. With Solar expect 2x to 4x run time (Nov/Dec 2024) Each panel is about 37v @ 13.5 amps, each weights about 55 pounds (going from memory) I ground mounted these, with the option to move if necessary. I had a Delta Pro, but it’s transition time from battery to AC and back didn’t work well. The Delta 3 plus solved that with faster (10ms, versus 20ms on the Delta Pro) transfer time. Good stuff, works for me.

Cheap way to do this. Run your solar panels and windmill wires (12 volt) to a $30 A/C 30 amp disconnect switch available at home depot (shuts off power from the roof) From the disconnect, run your wires to a 12 volt fuse panel you can build yourself (princess auto, Canadian tire) Run wires from fuse panel to one more disconnect switch From this disconnect switch run wires to your batteries (shuts off power to your batteries) From batteries run wires to power up your inverter (12 volt) Run wires from your inverter (120 volt) to a separate small 8 - 12 circuit pannel From this 120 volt panel, wire your most important circuits (lights, fridge, freezer, furnace, a/c, tv, ect My brother lived on a houseboat for 4 years with one battery

We got the bluetti system -two of the 500 units that have an adapter that make them 240 W with two batteries each and electrician came in and just like our generator that runs off of one sub panel the Bluetti runs off of a separate one and it will in an emergency run our oil burner, Some lights and the well pump, but to expect more than that from any of those types of units is too much on a dedicated line, it will not do our washer and dryer because of the way this is set up with a separate panel having the electrician come in and put surge protectors on and run lines to the panel. It was very expensive but the alternative to have full solar we got price quotes and that was even more money. This is not a small home …At least these can be taken with us if we need to move I’m not a huge fan of solar. We still have the generator back up as well.

I am currently tinkering with individual components to build a custom system (currently waiting for delivery). The plan is to learn how to do it and teach others as a consultant. I am also wanting to follow this up with DC appliances. I think DC optimizers rather than micro inverters would be huge here. I am trying to keep it all efficient as well.

Probably worth noting that 4000w is really not that much power output, and for many won't be sufficient to power your whole house. IMHO the EG4 18KV is much better bang for the buck. With a 200 amp pass through, 200ms automatic transfer switch, up to 18kw of pv input, leads for a generator outlet, and 50amp @240 from batteries it honestly seems like a much better setup. For under 9 grand you can get that 18kv with 15wkh worth of batteries (5 grand for just the 18kv), and for most people 50amp or 12000w will likely be sufficient to power the whole house. When the power goes out with the 18kv setup with a 200ms transfer switch you won't even know, outside of getting the alert on your phone. IF you wanted to roll your own batteries and you were a real DIY'r you could roll your own batteries, pick up a BMS and get some lipo cells from off of aliexpress and you could do it for even less, and probably build out a far higher capacity system for less money. Either way your paying an absolute premium for an all in one portable appliance, and frankly it falls short in many areas when comparing to the competition. The great thing is that its never been cheaper to get into energy independence, panels are cheap, batteries are insanely cheap, and you can generally do all this yourself.

Car to Home (C2H) EV's will make these storage batteries a niche product. You'll have 80+kwh in your EV to use as required. Some Ev's already have this feature installed. Tesla are introducing it next year. Just plug your car into your house for solar charging during the day or cheap night time tariffs and use the power whenever required.

I would love to get away from fossil fuels but living on social security there is no way I could afford this setup to run a whole house. Three winters ago here my power was out for eleven days from the worst ice storm I have ever seen. I had a 2000 watt propane generator hooked to my 500 gallon propane tank which basically ran for the eleven days without worrying about refueling the thing. The way I have it wired I was able to run my refrigerator, a freezer, my tv and laptop and any light or 110 outlet in my house. I know the load it can handle so I don't try to use a microwave or things like that. I have two gas fireplaces for backup heat and a gas range so I lived pretty well during this. Also if I would have had solar panels I believe they would have been covered in a half inch of ice . The propane use for this setup wasn't that much so until the price for a solar setup can come close to this I'll have to stick with my generator which I paid around $400 for. I have since added a 2500 watt propane generator that I can parallel with the 2000 which gives me around 3500 running watts if I need it.
