To use their proper terms a battement tendu stays on the floor, a battement glisse comes just off the floor, a battement jete is 45 degrees normally with the accent on the extension, and of course grand battement is the term for the larger action. The 'battement' part which is so often omitted for ease means to beat and refers to the legs touching together on the close. As stated previously a degage means to disengage there is no 'battement'.

I like these videos showing real kids "practicing" ballet. The teacher gives good explanations and the imperfections are what I see when I teach. There are plenty of other videos showing perfectly executed steps. Just remember, most of those people started out like these kids when young.

@farrahsmoan4095
@farrahsmoan4095 8 жыл бұрын
If you want to do ballet professionally, the very latest age to start would probably be 17. Doing jazz and being flexible won't be a ton helpful, but it will come in handy sometimes. You would also need to have strong ankles to be able to do pointe work (I would see a physio to prevent injury).

@BellaSicker
@BellaSicker 9 жыл бұрын
Anoud mb You can absolutely take ballet for fun, but don't go in with the expectation of making it your career. It's hard to tell whether you'd be good or not just from a comment, but just go to a studio and try a couple beginning adult classes to see if it's something you're really interested in. If you are interested, then keep attending classes, and talk to a teacher about what level is right for you and such. Remember that there is nothing stopping you from trying ballet, you're never too old. :)

Try re-reading the little bit above. Basically they gradually increase in height...So all battements are - tendu on the floor, glisse just off the floor, jete to 45 degrees, then grand battement. Degage is on the floor but instead of closing moves on to something else - run, hop, arabesque, etc. Hope that helps! x (This of course doesn't mean the names are always used correctly...but what's in a name, it's the technique and expresssion that matter!)

To everyone saying it's just a bit of fun, it's not, it's ballet training. I'm not being mean here but truthful, dancers take corrections and constructive criticism all the time, we appreciate it. From what I can see: sway back, turned in hips, Copelia arms, no tendu, open hips, bent legs to the back, not activating the core or glutes, probably tight iliopsoas muscle groups.

Degage means to dis-engage. If you stretch the leg out but then go on to do something else it is a degage. If you stretch and then close it back in it is a tendu. Bit confusing, but there you go!

I guess a tendu is a dégagé en a'tair
@YFaloMe
@YFaloMe 8 жыл бұрын
+Imani Magchu A tendu is an extension (literally) In ballet, it refers to extension of the foot on the floor. when you lift the foot from tendu off the floor, it becomes a degage, which in French means to disengage, in this case, from the floor. A degage is often taught "tendu , lift, tendu, close" for beginners before doing a degage.

No, it's not. Degage is basically same thing as glisse or battement jete. Tendu doesn't always have to close back. It can go into any other move. Degage will go right off the floor in one move. Sort of like semi grand battement.
