Memories! I lived in an apartment where noise was not allowed in the late '70s. I would go to Anaheim Stadium on Saturday mornings, set up next to my car, out back by the railroad tracks and play for a few hours. Someone from Security would drive out on their golf cart to make sure all was well then leave me alone. Excellent video as always!

Agreed, drums are fun but spending time practicing your rudiments and developing technique is essential!

Yet another brilliant lesson, Mike, with many home truths that may not be easy for many of us to swallow. But, if we're honest and look ourselves in the mirror, we know we're probably guilty of many of these transgressions, such as expecting to be able to play a song magically first time without bothering to do the homework up front. Thanks as ever, mate, and please keep them coming.

Everlong is 156 bpm according to one online source. What i find funny is that when i joined Drumeo in 2022 they had Everlong in the beginner section. For them this was a grade 2. I wrote that they are off of their heads for making this a level 2. After a few passes it was shoved into a grade 6 box. I wont be able to play that song for a while. I top out in the 130 range and the timing goes out the window for single stroke roll. Considering my age i dont think it will be possible to do this in my lifetime. But i do try to get faster at 16th note hi hat grooves. So, nothing can replace time on a kit and if you cant get to a kit then make the most of a pad and use skills you can transfer over. I was doing 5 stroke rolls today. Never done them and since my online place reshuffled stuff this is now in the grade were i am. So i thought i would give it a go. The pratice was a mixture of singles to make the 5 stroke rool and doubles to make the roll. Then mix them from bar to bar and switch hands as well. Confusing but by the end of 20 minutes i had it. Nothing can replace the time spent on praticing things.

Cool! Fun application of a 5 stroke roll in a drum fill for you here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqOlfK2AfrCerNU&pp=ygUfbWlrZSBiYXJuZXMgZHJ1c20gNSBzdHJva2Ugcm9sbA%3D%3D And disagree re age, how old are you? I've witnessed mulitple students in their 60s and 70s playing Everlong well. Age isn't the variable of success - it's application, consistency and willingness to work in the "improvement zone" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmiZZpSYjMqSq9U&pp=ygUjbWlrZSBiYXJuZXMgZHJ1c20gaW1wcmlvdmVtZW50IHpvbmU%3D) - most people don't have this. Thanks for watching.

I've been drumming for 5 years or so all self taught via KZbin but I would like a more structured approach as I find I'm playing the same stuff each time I go to practice and getting frustrated when I can't play songs I want to. How do I find out which grade of the Trinity series I should start at and do you need to be able to read music for the Trinity rock and pop drums? Just found your channel it's great you have inspired me to take action to get better!

Cheers! "What drum grade level should I start at?" video for you here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWe7fpqHpJKsn8Ufeature=shared Do you need to be able to read music? Not officially, you can learn the pieces however you like and you could choose "improvising" for your supporting test. My experience though is that learners find it very difficult to learn the pieces in the detail they demand for a top mark, especially at higher grades, without at least being able to follow the notation. I would 100% recommend learning to read. People often think it takes too long but it actually saves you loads of time in the end!
