I write prayer requests on post it's and date them. When they get answered, I put them in my prayer journal on the date they're answered. The prayer journal is more for my spiritual walk with God, the post its are for specific requests.

The church I go to does 30 minute prayer sessions for deep prayer, I respect it, different than the typical prayer. Prayer has been lacking in my life. I haven't made it a habit, yet. The biggest issues I see is when someone dies, or something goes wrong, people blame God and resent God or stop talking to him. I know from experience and from seeing it.

That’s a great idea just to take time and meditate on God and his word. Prayer has helped me in so many ways. Sometimes I just talk to God like he’s standing right next to me in the flesh. It’s great. I totally agree people put death(s) on God. That’s a long discussion but I’ve seen it myself too. Thank you for sharing and I pray your prayer life will grow and you’ll be bold with it! God Bless!

Thank you so much for this simple video, it came to me to start journaling when I often fell asleep during or my head went blank and I felt disconnected to God and that made me so unhappy! I wanna give him my time but didn’t know how to start without any distractions, so this helped me a LOT! he is my best friend & I never wanna lose that connection because of my constant scrolling on social media and all that noice, but to actually just sit in silence and hear him & hear my own thoughts 🙏🏾🙏🏾 so this video means a LOT to me! and tomorrow I’m gonna go & buy my journal 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💕💕 God bless you!!

Kudos to you for putting yourself, your guidance and advice and your wisdom out there for the benefit of us all. Lovely to see a young man doing this type of video (as other people have already commented) rather than the constant stream of women who seem to have 24 hours a day, every day to do it (which I sadly don’t). Thank you for what you do - it will be immensely useful to me. God bless you and yours.

Simple and practical. Thank you very much! I've been journaling / prayer journaling for years and sometimes it got complicated because I made it so. (Guilty!) These days I write down short sentences just like yours but I only use one side of the notebook. I would write down my prayers on the pages on the right hand side and leave the pages on the left for answered prayers. That way I get to use a new notebook more quickly. LOL 😄Start a new journal is always refreshing to me as I love to write. Again, thanks for the video and God bless you! 😊

I love the simplicity of your prayer journal. I've tried different ways of doing these. I love to fully write out my whole prayers for a couple reasons - 1, it helps me to stay focused on my prayer time. I suffer from prayer ADD and get distracted so easily. Taking the time to write everything down helps keep me focused. 2 - oftentimes I just enjoy putting pen to paper, and going back and looking over past prayers can be really nice. BUT I find that it often takes a lot of time, and I either don't have that time, or become lazy. I'm trying to find something simpler - but more complex than writing just a list. I may try the blurb idea. I am curious... on those things you pray about every say 2 weeks.... how do you keep up with what to add to your prayer list so things don't get lost in the shuffle?
@Lift4Him

@Jackieholloway Jackie, thank you so much for your comment! I agree with having time to finish the prayer journal each morning and that is why I have to stick to one or two sentences, you know, hit the main idea so when I go to God I have a straightforward idea of what to say. As far as adding new prayers to the weekly prayers or biweekly prayers I actually add them to the most recent weekly or biweekly list. I have an extra place or “new prayer” place I keep at the bottom. Then the next Monday when I do my weekly prayer list or it’s time to do the biweekly I flip back to the previous list and make sure that I haven’t left any new ones out. I also use that time to remove any that may have been answered or review to see if I need to pray differently or phrase a prayer differently. I hope this helps and answers your question. I may need to do a follow up video with some other little tips like this. God bless and thanks again for the comment!

I think this is an excellent question! I do not highlight those or praise God I'd go through highlighters like crazy..or I'd have a half yellow page. You have got me thinking though that there are some requests that I should highlight that I just haven't thought about..Instead of highlighting those you mentioned I usually thank Him daily (through prayer) when either my wife and I pray together or we and the kids pray together. Thanks for the great question! God Bless!

This was very helpful. I love the simplicity of your approach. It’s straight and too the point. I was wondering though, I have some coworkers who are dealing with chronic health issues either themselves or with a family member. How often do you pray about a chronic issue? I will pray over a specific appointment if I know about it but many times I don’t have any specific info, all I know is that John’s dad has cancer (for example). Thanks
@Lift4Him
@Lift4Him 2 жыл бұрын
Sherri thank you so much for the question. Chronic health issues are something that I would pray for specifically every week, possibly every two weeks if it's not severe or life threatening like arthritis. If it’s stage three cancer I’m probably praying every day. You may not know the specific details about what the “cancer” or whatever the illness is doing or how the last appointment went, but you do know that John and John’s dad need; strength, rest, and healing. If you don’t know specifically what they need you can try and put yourself in their shoes. What would you be asking God for or what would you want someone to pray for you. Even if your prayer every week is as simple as Lord God I lift up John and his family to you. I ask you to grant them healing and strength and that they be able to have a clear mind to rest and recover. I hope this helped and I may have to do a video on this because I have so much more to say, but not enough space. God Bless

I enjoy watching videos and I hope my question doesn't cause any problems. When someone asks for your prayers and you oblige, how is it different from requesting saints to pray for us? As a convert to Orthodoxy, I once asked my friends about this and they advised against praying to saints, but instead, praying is simply making a request to someone. So, "Smith, please ask God for me to..." is a form of prayer. Now, I ask saints to pray for me in the same way that people ask for your prayers. I'm just curious about the difference. I appreciate your video and wanted to add that I keep a prayer journal with daily prayer lists, hymns, and personal prayer rules. Sometimes, I include theological questions and answers for future generations to read and learn from.
@Lift4Him
@Lift4Him Жыл бұрын
@ricardoarchangel28 Orthodox thanks for the question! My answer may bring more problems than your question lol, but I’m gonna do the best I can to answer. This answer will be as biblical as possible, not of my own opinion. Asking others to pray for you is all throughout the New Testament: 2 Corinthians 1:11; Ephesians 1:16; Philippians 1:19; 2 Timothy 1:3. Paul even asks other Christians to pray for him in Ephesians 6:19 asking for basically God to speak through him to speak boldly about the Gospel. So asking people on earth to pray for you is biblically supported. You aren’t praying to Mr. Smith to talk to God on your behalf you're talking or in Paul's case writing a letter asking them. These people like the saints are not omniscient like God. There are 4 big downfalls when I think about why you shouldn't pray to saints. 1) What is prayer? Prayer is an act of supplication or asking for intercession to a deity whether you believe in one God deity or many like the Romans did at one time. So I believe your words (prayer is simply making a request to someone) are not accurate. In the bible I don’t see anything about prayer to anyone other than God you don't see Paul praying to Timothy he asked to pray to God, or the Lord or our Heavenly father 2) The Holy Bible does not say anything about praying to anyone other than God or asking saints or anyone that is dead to pass along prayers to God on your behalf. I know most that pray to the saints or ask the saints to pray for them believe in 1 Tim. 2:5, so my number 3) is why? You already have a hotline straight to God through Jesus’ blood and his intercession for us. If you believe that only God is Omniscient then the saints that are now in heaven don’t know what you are saying to them and couldn't possibly receive all the prayers/requests sent up to them. They don’t have the power to receive prayers in anything that I've read. And 4) I know Rev. 5:8 and 8:3 talk about prayers of the saints and that’s a verse some go to about praying to saints, but from what I’ve read it doesn’t say anything about those being our prayers or pray/ talk to us (saints) so we can offer your prayers to God. Also this is when God took the scrolls and is about to open the seals and if they wait till then to offer the prayers we are at the end times so may be a bit late. So I don’t believe those prayers are our earthly prayers. So in short I ask others for prayers or I pray for others about whatever because the bible says we should pray for one another. I hope this was helpful, thank you for the question and I really like you keeping the theological questions for others. That's an awesome idea. God Bless!

@@Lift4Him I appreciate your thoughtful approach and continued engagement in this dialogue. I use to be a Protestant and in fact an apologist. I use to go out and try to convince atheist that God was real and try to save as many as I could. Spent a decade doing that. But I always felt like something was missing or people couldn't really explain everything to me. So it started with Comnunion with me and how I once viewed it as a symbol but then people couldn't explain to me how all those Bible verses which some are in fact from Jesus himself said this is my body and blood and if you don't drink you won't have any part of me. You're right to highlight Bible verses and I'll try to do the same but I honestly find just basic analogies a better way for people to see things rather then trying to convince them of many years of sermons and listening to podcasts about specific scripture verses might have been interpreted incorrectly or that individual person didn't have a full understanding of that verse. In the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 22:32), Jesus says, "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. He is not the God of the dead but of the living." This proclamation by Christ underscores that those who have passed from this life are not truly 'dead', but alive in God, who is the source of all life. This helps to make the connection that we are not separated. We see this brought to life in the Orthodox tradition through the veneration of saints. Veneration is not worshiping and the most American way to describe it is how we treat the American flag. we don't throw it on the ground or let it get torn up but instead treat it with respect and an understanding that it holds value because of what it represents. These holy men and women are not distant or disconnected from us, but rather they are deeply involved in the life of the Church and are continually interceding for us. It is as though they have moved to another room in the same house, the household of God. Moreover, the Letter to the Hebrews speaks of a "great cloud of witnesses" (Hebrews 12:1), referring to those who have lived the faith before us. They are depicted not as indifferent observers, but as those who are cheering us on in our own spiritual race, just as spectators in a stadium might encourage athletes. They have run the race before us and have achieved the crown of victory, and now they encourage us to do the same. Therefore, when we ask the saints for their prayers, we are embracing this reality of the Communion of Saints. We are seeking the aid of those who, through the grace of God, have fought the good fight and won the race, and who now dwell eternally in His presence. The analogy of a monarch and his knights applies here. Just as a king sends his trusted knights or lords to carry out his will, God in His wisdom involves the saints and angels in His divine will. They are not substitutes for God, but participants in His divine love and communal nature. As we see in Scripture, God often sends angels to carry out His purposes. This is not because of any limitation in God, but rather it reveals His desire to include His heavenly hosts in His divine plan. When we ask for the intercession of the saints, we are not bypassing Christ, our ultimate mediator, but rather participating in the richness of the heavenly kingdom that He has inaugurated. By asking for the saints' intercessions, we are essentially reaching out to the wider family of the Church-on earth and in heaven-united in Christ's love. This deep communion of saints, transcending life and death, serves as a continual reminder of the eternal nature of God's kingdom. I hope this helps explain the other side better. I personally found it best to ask questions and to dig into church history beyond the last 500 years. I honestly found it a little disturbing to look into church history in the last 500 years and discover why there was a reformation and the politics behind it. Then when I discovered why the church split 500 years before that because of politics again and power grabs and alterations of the Church Creed. I just found that Orthodoxy held on to the real church traditions and teachings that the apostles were taught by Christ himself. This isn't me trying to convince anyone of anything because I have learned that if the heart isn't ready then nothing you say will convince anyone of anything. But if you or anyone reading this gets curious then there have been many people coming to Orthodoxy for a reason. Just read up and attend a service if you want to and ask questions.

Even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were” (Romans 4:17). The ability to speak things into existence is actually a spiritual law that comes into play by faith

dorothygregory while I appreciate your comment I have to respectfully disagree with you. The verse you reference is not talking about humans or followers of God/Christ. The author Paul is referring here to God who gives life to death. The end of that verse 17 God in whom he (Abraham) believed, who (God) gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. And moving back up to verse 13 Paul clearly states that the promise to Abraham and his offspring do not come from law, but through his faith in God. We have faith in God that he will answer the prayers we pray, whether it's yes, no or not right now, but I do not have the power to make things happen or speak myself into being healed or have a new car. Only God can make things happen. My faith in Him that He can make them happen is the only power I possess.

@@Lift4Him but to activate your faith you can speak things into existence as if it has already happened and then pray for it and stand back and watch God move I myself have done it many times

We cannot speak anything into existence. Can you please provide Bible verses to support your belief? (In context too)@@dorothygregory3184
