It seems to be a very common practice to do a shot list but not do a storyboard. Storyboard = a definitive vision. Shot list = leaving the small details up to chance (good for certain shoots where you may have more than enough time to overshoot if necessary). Storyboard = communicating your vision clearly and precisely to everyone you are working with. Shot list = a tick list of shots to complete, good for slating but at the same time there will be many uncertainties as words cannot be as clear as an image.

Keen for that cycling piece. I love shooting bike content, made one on my Grandfather who is over 80 and still rides 10,000kms a year !! Rapha ads are the only thing you need to watch for cycling content haha. Also yes !! Pre production is so important !! Every-time I get asked about working for yourself as a filmmaker I always say make sure you spend enough time in Pre Prod.

I think the best preproduction is data management. 1. Calibrate and format media 2. gear is organized, charged, and labeled. 3. Create a day schedule and call sheet 4. Setup flights, Airbnb, and update all payments with cash on hand for backup 5. Forget all parameters and shoot the action, don’t produce it. That’s the key

Hey man, you by far are one of the greatest inspirations to me for starting Freelance Video Work. You inspired me to make Spec-Ads and it paid off today. I made two Spec-Ads for Sparkling Ice. I really just like their drinks. And after I posted the second one. Sparkling Ice actually saw my Ads and loved it. They liked, commented, and shared the Ad on their IG story. Today was one of the best days of my life and I have you and so many other fantastic creators for that. Thank you.

Working as an executive Producer, planning big shoots and calculating budget, I can say prepro is more like calling thousands of people, starring on your computer etc.. mood boards are more something for setdesign, location Scout etc.... But as a one man shoot I can appreciate that!

Great walkthrough and tips with Milanote, Danny - Filmmaking is really a long process of creative divergent and convergent thinking waves. The blue skies notes are divergent thinking and when you decide on location, you do convergent thinking, where you revise the options you came up with in the blue skies ideas.
