Ok what I do not understand is why the hell don’t the makers pretreat the masks themselves so it’s ready to go outta the box… makes no sense.. or at least give instructions on how to pretreat!! Wtf.. I’ve literally had trips be not as good coz I’ve had so much contant fogging
@yigawaffle
@yigawaffle 3 ай бұрын
This pretreating method is used in order to remove a thin film on the mask that is in place to prevent the mask's lenses from getting scratched. (It think)

Why can't the manufacturers do this before they ship them? Just got back from a crappy dive with a new mask which instantly fogged. The brand I got didn't have any instructions like this included (cressi).
@yigawaffle
@yigawaffle 3 ай бұрын
You have to to this because there is a thin film over the scuba mask to prevent it getting damaged in transit. (I think)

Let us know how it goes! Check out the lighter method video too which works really well if you are comfortable putting a flame to your mask. 👍🏻

@@krakenaquatics I will be trying that method, how far does the light have to be from the goggles?
@krakenaquatics
@krakenaquatics 2 жыл бұрын
@@luismosquea4631 Just close enough that you start to see it burn what’s on the lens. Probably a couple inches away. Start further away and move closer until you start to see it burn and be sure to keep the flame moving.

@@krakenaquatics one more question, can the fire method can happen to your freediving mask like the one that you used for the toothpaste method.

I just want to say I've tried this as well as burning quite a number of times now, and the only time I've ever had it not completely fog when I breathed on it was if I did that before it was dry, but when it still very much had a fluid layer on the lens. I spent almost an hour doing this yesterday and another hour tonight and after drying it with a soft towel to the point its not streaky/smudging. Then when I breath on it, bam, full lens is fogged. Surely there must be a trick to this I'm missing or something wasn't shown fully.

You’re not, this is made up to sell more anti fog product. Anti-fog that works is generally already inside the material, not applied after manufacturing. The last “test” this guy does doesn’t have any air coming out of his mouth, he’s faking it

Why do you treat outside surface as well? Outside surface is in the water and will never fog.
@krakenaquatics
@krakenaquatics Жыл бұрын
We do it just to get both sides of the lens clean. It's just a personal preference. However, it is only necessary to treat the inside of the lenses to minimize fogging and extra attention should be spent cleaning the inside. Thanks for watching!

Do you do this before every dive or just when the mask is new
@krakenaquatics
@krakenaquatics Жыл бұрын
You should only need to pre-treat a new mask before using it for the first time assuming it is done correctly. However, you should consider adding an anti-fog solution of your choice to the mask before every dive to minimize fogging.

Hey, I have a full face snorkel mask I bought from giant tiger, it works properly but it does fog when I exhale through my mouth (not my nose though) but you can’t see the fog while underwater, would I have to treat this too, cause I’ve already dived with it once

4:47 The toothpaste has not moved, and you did not even breathe properly on the mask. You did the toothpaste treatment once, and then used the antifog solution. It probably works, but why would you lie about how you did it?

Is it okay to do this on a new Mares Viper diving mask ? (It wasn’t listed in the manual like the other masks). Also, other videos show treating the lenses with a lighter. What are your thoughts about that method ?
@krakenaquatics
@krakenaquatics Жыл бұрын
The Mares Care and Maintenance instructions don't recommend using toothpaste but we wouldn't hesitate to use it ourselves. We usually use the lighter method to pre-treat our masks because it's quick, easy and works well but it does come with some risk which is why it's not for everyone. We have a video showing the lighter method as well. You can watch that video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqjCY31_hduIoKc. Ultimately it comes down to which ever pre-treatment method you are comfortable using with your brand new mask.

Why do I have to put toothpaste on 50$-100$ mask
@krakenaquatics
@krakenaquatics 2 жыл бұрын
The purpose is to pre-treat your mask to minimize fogging. If you don't pre-treat your new mask, you will likely have a fogging problem. There is also the fire method to pre-treat a mask which we also have a video for.

@@krakenaquatics cool thanks man I seen all your videos. Would I be good with just tooth paste?
@krakenaquatics
@krakenaquatics 2 жыл бұрын
@@cruzinthruspace Thanks for watching them! Toothpaste works well, just be sure to repeat the process several times. You should be able to breathe onto your mask and not have it fog up. That is how you'll know it's done. It's a little bit of work to get it done properly but it is well worth it.
