6:10 Jerry Bridges begins speaking. "The gospel is the mainspring of the Christian life, but it has to be wound every day." Thank you , Jesus, that you died for all my sins. Help me to not build my theology on my emotions, my feelings of unworthiness and failure, or even my 'victories,' but alone on what you have done on the cross.

It is so inspirational how he served the Lord and continued learning from scripture until the day he left this earth to go meet Him. One of a kind man of God.

Jesus forgives our past sins when we accept the cross and redemption plan of God GOD then expects us to journey towards forgiving others There is a journey of transformation towards HOLINESS and GODLINESS thru the power of the finished work of the cross and the Holy Spirit Following Jesus brings us back to our original design. We were made In the image and likeness of God back in the garden of eden

1 John 3:9: “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.” The practice of sin is the evidence and confirmation that one is not born of God. Doing confirms being. Not practicing sin is the evidence and confirmation of being born again. First John 2:1: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” In other words, John does not assume that if you sin, you are not born again. He assumes that if you sin, you have an Advocate, Jesus Christ. And only those who are born again have this Advocate. John 17:15-18 I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” So we are to be in the world as Jesus was in the world, yet also not to be of the world, even as Jesus was not of the world. The way to keep this fine balance is to be sanctified (set apart) by God’s Word of truth.

The gospel is the GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM! Jesus is going to return and set up the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH! God’s government ON THE EARTH! The Messiah died for his people! God resurrected the Messiah! The Messiah will resurrect his people! The destiny of the Messiah and his people is to be ON THE EARTH! The renewed restored earth! God also dwelling with them! Rev 21 Matt 24 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Jesus said the Father is the only true God! John 17 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

As good and as humbling as it may sound- I believe it's not biblically right for saved believers to still consider themselves "a practicing sinner" as Jerry is teaching. If I remain a practicing sinner, 1 John 3: 9, after I've been saved then Jesus didn't and couldn't do a complete job at saving me from my sin Matthew 1:21. He/she is not a Christian who is living in or is practicing sin. Sin should be "accidental" for the believer, not a practice! I beg to differ with Jerry (may his soul rest in peace) on this.

I believe that Jerry was illustrating the posture of the tax collector-not saying “practice” as in ongoing deliberate, unrepentant sin, but the posture that rehearses, “I come to you Lord, a sinner, approaching boldly the throne of grace.”
@savedberean254

@@erikpreston2393 the tax collector was a sinner. In our bid to sound "humble" we end up making statements that are sincerely "unbiblical". Many Christians like to say "we are all sinners". with the intention of being "humble" and acknowledging that we sin sometimes. A christian who sins is not a sinner, in the same way a sinner who does one good deed is not a saint. A christian is a saint- The righteousness of God in Christ, I believe seeing ourselves the way scripture states and God calls us, is more humbling and honest. Can anyone help me find biblical proof for believers to still call themselves sinners? It's different when you say we all sin sometimes but to say "I am a sinner" even after you've believed in Christ, is not scriptural no matter how humbling it might sound to people. It's not pride to know and acknowledge your place in Christ. Of all the names, in scripture given to the believer- Not Once is he/she called a "sinner".

@@rodbrown8306 i think so too but it's common knowledge that many Christians like making this statement "we are all sinners". It may sound humbling but is it scriptural? that's my question. If it's not scriptural, why do we keep saying it?

@@savedberean254 points well taken. Thank you. I think Jerry would definitely assent to this as well, our positional relationship--again, I get the hunch that he was speaking about posture... something helpful to him to start out his day. His book has been a real blessing, as has this wonderful talk he gave. Much like Spurgeons short prayer before he would take the pulpit, "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner."
