I originally disliked kale, but a year eating Spring Mix with baby kale changed my tastebuds. I always put the stems in my smoothies. Nutrition and fiber combined! I add chopped leaves to soups, tomatoes sauces, etc. Wonderful flavor and nutrition. I just wash and dry and store whole in my old Tupperware celery keeper with a dry paper towel on top. Lovely video. Best wishes for continued success. I try to watch every video you have made.

I love your chopper! I know you have showed it before, but I loved the way it chopped the kale. Also, the method you used to get the leaves off the stem…I like the method of starting in the middle of the stem. Very helpful!

This kale is my favorite, too. Once I prep it, I then add a thinned down hummus with a squeeze of lemon. I keep it in a large glass Tupperware container in the fridge. I flip it throughout the day. I add chopped red bell peppers, diced carrots and diced red onions. So easy and tasty. Thanks for this prep video. The Krocks rock!!! ♥️

I have to buy the chopped curly kale in the bag. The leaf bunch is kinda limp at my store. It’s a huge bag and takes 45 minutes to pick through. I don’t wash. I then use my S blade in my food processor and pulse 10 times. Sooo nice and chopped. Kale is my favorite. My dog likes the stems.

I love the convenience of the pre-chopped greens. I usually eat them in soups, stews, etc., stems and all. Lately I've been getting a "green trio" collard, mustard, and turnip blend. Lately I have been working on getting away from "store bought" stuff like canned beans, boxed vegetable broth, etc., and making my own. I'm also starting to get into canning and dehydrating. I want to start shopping more at a local weekly farmer's market and less at grocery stores. With that goal I need to give up the convenience of pre-chopped greens and start prepping them for use myself. Not only will it save money, but it will give me a larger selection of greens to choose from. Thank you for this video. It couldn't have come at a better time. I was just recently thinking of the need to make the switch to buying whole greens.

geat job jessica!! i always add the stems (chopped) as the first thing to saute with the onion for soups and other things until they're tender. i've also water sauteed them until they were tenderish and adding garlic and other seasonings for a side dish. blending them with fruit for smoothies... my compost's worms and microbes also enjoy the stem ends, too.

This is a great video! Good point about all the short storms in pre-cleaned and chopped kale. I’ll never buy that again. Pulling off is a great technique. I always massage my kale. Chop the stems and use for soup or chili.

I've been buying organic chopped frozen kale to include in my cooked meals, but this is a great idea, and can be eaten raw. Nice to have options. Running the rolled up kale through the chopper is pretty cool. Probably not in the budget right now, but I have a knife, and don't mind chopping. Thanks for the ideas.

With all the veggie's you eat I'm surprised I haven't seen a "make your own stock from veggie scraps" recipe. All my stems, peels, ends, etc. go in a bag in the freezer and then into a pot of water at some point. It makes the best stock! It's always different. We make the stock, strain through cheese cloth and then taste to see what it wants to become.

Good job with the kale! Years ago there was a vegan woman on KZbin and she made the most delicious kale salad. You can’t find the recipe anymore because she didn’t have that many views. All these other people like Martha Stewart now trump it out of coming up so. But the bulk of the salad is that you take the Dino kale and massage a little bit of oil into the pieces. then you take an avocado and stir it in with some lemon juice. I know you would think it would be lime juice but it’s not. One time I made it and used lime. It was not good😂 Then use salt and pepper, put as many green onion tops as you would like in the salad. I haven’t made it in years and I think that that’s correct. At least that is the correct base of the salad and it is really good.

When you cook kale, the stems are tender and okay to eat. If you eat it raw, you can slide a knife along the stem and the whole side of the leaf comes right off. I’ll try your method next time and see if it’s easier. I usually cook it though. I like it with olive oil and garlic and maybe some navy beans. Yes!

This is a great video! fyi - if you have a second bowl handy, it is better to remove the kale in handfuls by lifting it out of water, which allows the dirt and bugs to drop to bottom of bowl with water i it… then rinse it in second bowl and pull out into first bowl. ready for spinning.
