Hi Parth and Mohan, fantastic stuff putting this out there; will help reduce the information asymmetry. Also, I read some of the questions from people asking if they can break into quant roles, when studying in a college other than IIT/NIT. Just wanted to add, pretty much any hard-working guy/gal can land a quant role. Typically, you either work at a buy-side prop firm or a sell-side bank interacting with traders/structurers. Banks are not as selective as HFTs. The typical skillset that FO quant positions require are probabilistic and analytical skills. Also, it doesn't matter whether skills are self-taught or school-taught in the long run.

I know that you have made some videos on HFT firms, and in one of your videos you mentioned that these firms tend to prefer candidates from top tier colleges. For hft very high computing power is required. A single person may not afford the cost of those machines. Not sure about the exact initial money required to start the firm but i have heard about it to be 2-3 Crore.

It will be hard to get into top hfts initially. You can try 3 things:- 1. Be very good at CP, like master level and then start applying in hft companies in india. It might be possible that top hft firms may not look into your profile but there are few hfts that will consider you like APT portfolio, squarepoint and other mid level hft firms. Later you can shift to top hft firms. 2. You can apply in foreign hft firms. 3. Do masters in Cse or finance and get into hft firms In all cases you must be good in CP.

Yes you can get into HFTs In another video, I interviewed a guy who got 5k rank and got civil in IITG, later he changed his branch to CSE and finally got System offer from Quadeye.

For HFTs you should focus on High CPI 9+ and Good rating on Codeforces 1900+. Only these two things will help you to get into the HFTs.
