Hey Jade, where do I go as the canadian sponsoring a spouse from outside of canada? the portal you list in the description appears to be for the person being sponsored, not for the sponsor. the canadian govt website is so confusing, and does not link a single time where to pay or submit applications as the person sponsoring. I'm at my wits end with this, would you be able to confirm if that portal is for both the sponsor and the spouse, or if it is just for the sponsored spouse? thanks so much

Hi Jade! Realizing this is a kind of a late response, but just wanted to clarify that both steps needed to sponsor a spouse all take place within the same online portal (i.e. sponsor application and permanent residency application)? If so, when asked for when we had applied for a CSQ, would this be the same date the entire application is submitted? Thanks, :)

Hello Jade, thank you for this video it helped clarify some information I had. I do have some more questions if you're able to answer. 1. You mentioned submitting the application and choosing the option from inside canada, and then you mentioned it can be done while my spouse is here for the entire 12 months I assume that's the processing time at the time of this video. I thought there was a limited stay of 6 months. How can my spouse stay in Canada for the entire 12 months/processing time. 2. Is it possible to submit the application with the choice from outside canada, and then update it to inside canada when my spouse comes to canada?

Hello there, for part one, you have to apply to extend their stay as a visitor past the initial six months, this is only if you are trying to become common law. For part two, no you can not switch classes of application so you need to pick inside or outside when you are filing.

Hi Jade! Thank you for the info. I just have a question on the part of the application where it asks if we live together, and if not if we have visited each other. It then gives 5 lines to list specific info. My wife (Sponsor) and I live 30 minutes apart, her being in Ontario and I am in Michigan. We see each other on a regular basis (minus border closure/covid). How do you suggest we show this information?

Hi there, You would need to prove visits, add an addendum to this form listing every single visit ever between the two of you. You can also access the I94 records from the government to get your crossing records.

I have authorized my husband as my unpaid representative and he is my sponsor as well. My question is, I have used my husbands email to create the online portal and the same email has been entered in the representative's email address in the IMM 5476 form. Is this acceptable by IRCC or do I have to create the online portal using my email address?

Hey! I had a question… my husband is a citizen of Canada and I’m currently in a maintained status and have applied for a post graduate work permit. We have a baby on the way very soon and we have to go overseas for a family reunion maybe in 6 months so that everyone can see the baby. I was wondering if let’s say I get my pgwp by then, can we all go out of Canada for a vacation for 2-4 weeks and come back without an issue?

Congratulations on the new baby! Your PGWP shows your status in Canada, if you have a new one you should be fine to travel and return. If you also need a TRV to travel, then ensure that you get this before you travel!

When uploading the documents of PA's child (such as birth cert, passport) in the portal, would those only fall under the 'Children's information' document type or still depend on the file to be uploaded just like PA's? Hi Jade, question: So you can't appeal the In-Canada Sponsorship.....can you re-apply? Or If they tell you why they have refused it do they give you a chance to correct whatever mistakes you made?

Hi Karen You can reapply under the same category but you’d have to seriously consider why they refused the application, if you’re worried about this, I’d be filing from outside of Canada.

If she's a lawyer or consultant she has to respond to you and give you a copy of your application. For sponsorships, you won't get a file number for a few months after submission. You should be able to see in your account (where you signed) that it was submitted.

Hi there! You are supposed to be living together in Canada as part of the in Canada sponsorship application. I would likely recommend an out of Canada application for you, as to avoid issues with the in Canada processing requirements.

Yes you can file online, it’s usually advisable as this way you can know right away if you’re missing a document.

There is no income requirement for spousal sponsorship, however the onus is on you to demonstrate that your spouse will not access public funds when she arrives. Ideally you’re working, but if not, then I show proof of savings and a detailed plan of how you’ll support yourselves in Canada.

Hi, I was wondering if you can help us choose between family class and in Canada class. My husband is a Canadian citizen and we have a baby together. I’m currently living with him in Canada on a maintained status. I was a student and now I have applied for my pgwp. I’m guessing my pgwp will be issued in the next few months. We have not yet applied for the spousal sponsorship. It’s important for us that we can travel maybe once or twice a year. It’s also important for us that I can stay in Canada and keep on working. My baby is also a citizen. We’d like to have the right to appeal but I’m worried that the family class does not provide us with the option of a open work permit. What happens if while my spousal sponsorship with a family class is processing, my pgwp expires and then I have to leave… which one do you think makes most sense for us?

In-Canada is probably still best, if you are going to have a PGWP, then you can use it to travel, remember you'll need a TRV as well (if you are from a TRV-required country).

Hi there, you need to wait for the request letter from IRCC in order to obtain this police clearance. Saudi Arabia will not issue this to you without the letter.

You can include them on your application, but you would need out of Canada forms as part of their application.

Hi Amir, You can try, but often these visas (called TRVs) are refused. Sometimes we’ll try for it first, and if you can’t get a TRV, then you file for sponsorship.

It’s not, but you will need to show proof of contact: email, letters, phone calls, etc. If you do not provide these it’s a risk to your application.
