People sometimes say they are not interested in figs because they did not like Fig Newtons. A fresh fig is nothing like a Fig Newton. They are really sweet and delicious!

I know this is about a year later. But I agree. Fig Newtons don't even taste like they have figs in them. Just sugar and tiny seeds.

I heard you mention that you don’t like sweet. I just learn from ag extension that sugar is just to help with color and texture. So I canned pears with zero sugar -vjust water and lemon juice. They turned out great ! I have a baby fig tree I can’t wait to try this “ round robin” canning method with them.

Loved it!! Our trees are having an off year or something. Every third year we have more figs than we know what to do with. This is the year after the third year. No figs at all. But, the leaves are beautiful. So, I am dehydrating all the leaves I can for tea. It REALLY makes some good tasting tea. AND it's good for you!!

The leaves makes great tea. Tastes like green tea. The figs you have do not have the fig wasps. Only certain verities of figs in California needs the wasps. Yours in a common fig which there are 1000 of verities.

Those figs look delicious. I have the video saved so if I ever get figs from my tree I can do this. It seems God likes to put random things in my yard. A couple years ago it was a fig tree that I thought was a weird looking weed at first. A few years before that was a big elderberry bush. Yesterday I found a white oak sapling in my front yard. ❤️

This is so crazy, I just watched Shawn James on "My Self Reliance". He lives in the wilderness of Canada and is building a new homestead. He had a beautiful off grid homestead he built with old fashioned tools. Due to a new obnoxious neighbor moving in he sold that property and moved to this property. Today he planted a fig tree in his green house. Today you are canning figs. He also has another channel, Shawn James. Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏✝️🙏🇺🇸🙏

Thank you for showing others how to can. One thing I noticed you didn't tell that there is suppose to be a rack for the jars to sit upon in the caner. I remember when my mom was canning and we couldn't find the rack (just a round piece of metal with holes in it to keep jars off bottom of caner). She folded a small bath towel and put in bottom making sure it touched all the way around then filled with water. She said it was to keep the bottom of the jars from getting too hot and exploding. Thought you might let beginners know this trick. I have often used this when I was water bathing just a few pints of something (caught on sale at store) in a small stock pot.

Figs only have the wasps inside of them if you live in certain areas of southern California, the Mediterranean, or the Middle East in climates that don't freeze. Frosts kill the fig wasp. All figs grown in the US outside of some parts of Southern California are self pollinated and have never had a wasp inside them.

Thanks for the video. Always looking for something to do with a bumper crop of figs. Unless you’re in certain areas of California there are no fig wasps. Your figs are “common” figs like brown turkey or Celeste as opposed to Smyrna figs that do require the wasp for pollination. Common figs are parthenocarpic (self-pollinating) and are perfectly delicious fruit.

Great production, better than any cooking show. You don’t even need the recipe, just follow your directions on this video.👍

Although the fig tree in my yard, not quite as big as yours. The fruit on it was as big as baseball’s ( not quite ) but very big. So I’m thinking they were a different fruit( species), but I’m not telling a fib . They were every bit three times as big as yours. That was my house in Keystone Heights, Florida. Maybe you can tell me what kind, they were big and purple. Again no lie.
