Thank you! I love this and think it's so much prettier than putting the flowers in resin. Do you know if this would work with rigid polycarbonate? Or does the copper tape/soldering only work with real glass?
@SparkleGarbage Жыл бұрын
This will only work with real glass. Anything made of plastic will melt and create really toxic fumes. There are stained glass shops that sell pre-cut glass pieces if you don't want to cut them yourself.

I saw your comment on Reddit about UV and thank you so much for this video. That piece is amazing. Wow you are so talented. I have a question, UV glass exists, I wanted to know what you think about using it for this. I want to put pressed flowers in an attic window stained glass piece that will get a LOT of sun.

What soldering iron do you recommend?
@sarahgooding1099 Жыл бұрын
In the video I am user a Weller brand iron but I now use a Hakko. I would recommend a Hakko soldering iron because they are super easy to use and come in a fairly wide range of prices.

Didn’t hear you speak of the different color of the foil tape...especially if you use clear glass. You trimmed the foil on the back so the color didn’t show, but most people who solder don’t trim. Just a suggestion...it comes in different colors. PAM
@SparkleGarbage Жыл бұрын
Foil this wide (half inch) sometimes doesn't come in all the finishes which is why I did not mention it. I personally only use silver for pieces like this. I trim away the edges because I think it just looks better. I've found that with very wide foil, it sometimes covers the flowers which I try to avoid.

How do I frame with zinc when part of my piece is so much thicker due to the two layers of glass ?
@SparkleGarbage3 ай бұрын
I don't use zinc on pieces that are two layers of glass. I just build up a good size solder bead around all the edges.

@SparkleGarbage Жыл бұрын
I used a glass cutter and running pliers. I'm working on a tutorial on how to cut glass. If you don't want to mess with cutting glass yourself, there are shops that sell pre-cut glass shapes.

Question? Can you use 2 pieces of plexi glass then copper foil around it then solder? Or does it have to be real glass. I’ve started pressing flowers as a hobby and to gift to people and want to start making my own frames and plexiglass is much cheaper from what I’ve found so wondering if it can be done before I waste money buying it 🤪
@SparkleGarbage2 жыл бұрын
Please do not try this with plexi glass. Its made of plastic and will melt. that melting plastic will also give off pretty toxic fumes. Clear window glass is actually cheaper than plexiglass, the tools are just an additional cost. If you want to put pressed flowers in plexi glass you could always just glue the edges together or even foil them but not solder. Stay safe and good luck!

Hi pretty!! i love your video and want to try out making something! I was wondering though, if it’s okay to skip the solder step(stop at 17:23 in the video). i like how it looks before the solder too, and was just curious if it’s okay to skip those last steps. thank you!!
@victoriafetterolf16252 жыл бұрын
It would not be very secure if you don't solder, since all that would be holding it together is tape.

I need to source cheapest of supplies as my funds are low. Can you give me any tips or advice on soldering iron, type and flux. Sooooo delighted with this. Clare xx
@SparkleGarbage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Clare, Keep an eye on facebook market place or any local community groups as people are often looking to get rid of stained glass stuff and you can get a lot of cheap. Its not a terribly cheap hobby but if you just get the basics, its not too bad. For this project i just use window glass which is pretty cheap from the hardware store and if you press your own flowers or leaves those are free!

Thanks you so much for your video! i´m watching you from Argentina, want to start with stain glass. I want to do something big like 20x30.

Is there another polish you would recommend? The one linked is not available. Also-do you use a pickle or just the polish? New to soldering. Only interested in making these pressed flower pieces.
@SparkleGarbage2 жыл бұрын
So there are some brands they sell at hobby stores like studio pro that would work. I think the supply chain being messed up made the Liva brand hard to find. no need for pickle, that's usually only used for jewelry making. I would also add that sometimes these are not 100% water tight so be careful when cleaning them as liquid getting into them will ruin the flowers.

You can also use a flower press! Or just a bunch of really heavy books on top. This will also dry them out and prevent them from rotting!
