Welcome to the creative cove, thank you for visiting with me today. Lately I have been obsessed with being in the garden and trying to preserve the beauty that summer has to offer before we are buried in snow again. Pressing flowers for my journals is one of the ways I keep the summer bounty with me all year. Today’s tutorial is how I seal my flowers using a varnish. I hope this inspires you to give it a try.

That unknown flower is Purple loosestrife. It's pretty but it is highly invasive here in Vermont. Queen Anne's lace is a wild carrot and you can eat the root if you want to. It smells just like a carrot when you pull them up. Thanks for another great video. I love learning new things about art.

I tend to love all the things you love..the pressed flowers, grunge, vintage, botanical, sketches, all that stuff. I have several favorite you tube artists as my "go to" for learning, inspiration, and just having fun, you are definitely the #1 of my all time favorite. Thank you for sharing your creativity. Beautiful flowers to dry, some of which I have not dried. My friend Ann has decorated a candle for me 🙏, with her own garden's flowers. She did a lovely job, sealing the flowers with a bit of melted wax. Wrapped up in cellophane & tied with a purple bow (my fav colour) it was a perfect gift for me. I cherish it! TFS🙏🥰🦘🦘🦘🌿

I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying your videos. I do eco dye and got a smaller hot press for Christmas that I haven’t tried yet but have fall leaves and 💐 flowers frozen. Hopefully it works. I got the freezing video from another person on utube and can’t think of her name right now, but she does a lot of eco dying. I am gonna have to watch your video on the drying process because I absolutely love this whole video and I’m obsessed with picking up leaves, flowers, pods,acorns,pine ones,sticks. That’s my favorite junk from nature. I do mixed media and cards and scrapbooks but you and a few others have inspired me to try a junk journal, ty

Thought I would do one for my son with family photos with embellishment and names so he will know who they are and the things they liked and did when they were young. He has never met some of them. A family history of sorts.

Hi! Im new to pressed flower art and had a question about varnish and glue. O was using a decoupage glue to bond the flowers top and bottom, then used a spray varnish on top. Im noticing some greenery and certain flowers fading fast after i applied the varnish. Maybe 1 month later? Would you happen to know which element would be causung it? Some flowers i biught online and im not sure uf they weren't 100% dried. If that coukd also be the issue 🤔

This is so fascinating! I'm new to pressing flowers, but you know how people put them in photo frames, especially with no back so it's just glass... is it possible to paint both sides of the flowers with varnish and then glue them to the glass? Or does it need to be done on paper? And if you don't varnish them, do they end up disintegrating? Thank you! I really enjoyed this video :)
@thecreativecove6898
@thecreativecove6898 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried that myself. The varnish is for the paper option it just gives it a protective coating to be used in a book. If you are just framing a specimen to hang on the wall you wouldn’t really need the varnish. Just make sure it is fully dry, You could also find a frame where there are two pains of glass to press the flower in. Just be a wear not to put the specimen in direct sunlight the colour will fade. Hope that helps

Hi! Just found your Channel and I found It very useful and arty. I would like to ask a question about a Craft I did with dried flowers. The thing is that the petals of a flower are receding and getting holes in them. I suppose that the flower was just not dry enough, but would like to know whether I am right. Also, I Have found that if you leave a flower to dry for too lo g It loses its colour and becomes brownish, si I take It out when It still preserves some of its colour. Will they become Brown with time when I stick them and frame them? Would I avoid that problem with the varnish? Sorry for the erratic ortography, but Im writing from Spain. Thank you. Blanca
@thecreativecove6898
@thecreativecove6898 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Thank you 😊 Only few flowers retain their vibrant colour when fully dried. And all dried flowers will turn brown eventually if exposed to UV light. I would imagine that the flower was not fully dry which is why it’s getting holes now. The varnish only protects the plant from getting ruined and kept things flexible. it won’t help keep its colour. I hope this info helps
