You are welcome. They are far more common than many believe.

I have a 500g bird feeder from the company s.t.a , everytime i fill the feeder with birds seed mix, it stays clean about 2 weeks then the moth gets inside,lay eggs and the feeder gets clogged leaving the birds starving because they get clogged due the web formed by the worms i guess

The seed likely already has the eggs in it from harvest, storage and travel. They hatch once temperatures get warm enough, long enough.

I opened a brand new bag of bird seed and found it was (or had been) infested with meal moths because it’s webbing was all over the bag. I had to throw it all out.

This is the worst time of time of year for them. The eggs had been laid somewhere around in the process

Why does it take a while 2 weeks in the freezer to kill them?

Ones I’ve got also got into my denture cleanser why would they do that the larvae 🐛

That is odd. My guess is that the moths laid their eggs in a tight space under the lid and once they hatched that is the direction they crawled. Just a guess though

Put your seed in freezer after buying leave it there for a week that will kill all eggs, lava, and adult moth's in the packaging also empty hover outside after hoovering if you have a household steam all around the area where you think they are ie bird cages, cupboards eggs, lava, and adult moths cannot survive temperature of 55c

I have them In everything. Including a container of crushed red pepper. How did they get in there?
@MarksBackyardBirds2 жыл бұрын
The eggs were likely laid in some component in the container either in the field of some point of storage.

@@MarksBackyardBirds when I gently squeezed the container, I can feel air coming out of the cap. So there must be a small crack if they went through

I'm infested with these moths. I have 14 Parrokeets, 2 African Greys, 2 Conures ,1 Quaker ,and a partridge and a pear tree ......no, just kidding, I have a Cockatoo. Anyway, I have been catching and releasing them as well as KILL them. They are a nuisance more than anything especially when I'm trying to eat and you don't know whether this dang thing is gonna fly into your food or into your drink. The weird thing about these moths is when I catch them and take them outside and let them go they wanna come back inside my house they keep flying back towards my storm door, like they want to come back in. On numerous occasions, I'd release them and they'd keep trying to land on me. I'd shoosh them away,and they'd keep attempting to land on me. They MUST have a super keen science of smell.
