He said they only mated for a tiny bit but I have whacked several couples who stayed stuck together even though they knew I was trying to get them. They were able to move and didn't separate. I continued to have sightings for months. Finally found they had holed up in a cabinet with towels. Maturing a few at a time.

blue puppy Some nights I squish 4 or 5 mating pairs. That’s a good feeling. The sticky traps work well at catching the makes, however all you need is 2 females that lay eggs and your problem won’t go away. I did get rid of a bag of flour I suspected was the root but they are still emerging every few days. More sticky traps and tearing my house apart cleaning is the only solution.

I had this problem in my parents house. They originated in the laundry room, in bird seed. Then spread to the kitchen. It took me forever to realize the bird food was the source. Now, everything I bring in is frozen for about a month. Rice, flour, sugar. All of it. lol

This is giving me extreme anxiety. I wish the moths could go away already. I have first spotted them around 1 1/2 weeks ago. I had no idea why they were there but now I suspect it may have come from a bag of flour I bought from the store. The bag of flour is no longer in my house but there are still some moths. As a germaphobe this is absolutely horrifying. I hope they didn’t breed but I did notice a bit of webbing and white dots around the corner of my television. This has truly been a nightmare for me.

@misskwannie
@misskwannie 4 жыл бұрын
Jeff W an update I find relevant for you: the moths started breeding in my bag of rice and I quickly sealed that bag and put it aside because I wasn’t sure if the white dots inside the bag were eggs or not. After killing many more moths I find that there are a lot less. Some days I don’t see any and when I do I kill it immediately. I haven’t done any deep cleaning (yet, but I do recommend it because it’ll keep the moths away). My tip is just to seal away anything suspicious. The moths, for me, were concentrated around the bag of flour and rice. I hope this was helpful.

I have birds, so we have to have food on hand at all times and it just so happens that bird seed is the moths absolute favorite. if there's even a small opening in the food container, I'll get moths and larva days later. I've had to get rid of at least 5 rounds of babies. It's horrible

I had this issue for a few months. I thought it was just some wild insects coming in due to summer, but then autumn set in and I had closed the windows for long, but they were still around. So I did a good deep cleaning and found larvas underneath the spicerack I have. I typically eat porridge before gym and since I finish a bag in 3-4 days I dont usually close it. Who knows how much extra proteins I might have gotten.... In any case I must have the cleanest pantry in my town now.

@@nemo320 not yet. looks like they slowed down. I made a neem oil/castile soap/water solution, if you see them flying around..that causes them to drop in flight. the pheromone traps help with the males. and I keep my lights on at night to reduce areas females will lay their eggs bc the larvae can't handle light. I taped all the edges of doors, and plastic draped off areas to make air tight sections, and place moths balls or moth/larvae killer boxes in them. my last resort will be hiring an exterminator. the only place they could be at this point is maybe in the fixture of my ceiling fans. if you garden in your home be careful to check exposed seeds laying around and cocoons along any stacked plant pots. they will find food. oh I also burn cedar essential oils at night too.

@InsectsLimited
@InsectsLimited 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, if the larval stage had a chance to feed before you removed the food, they can survive up to 1 month or more with no food and may even turn into adults if they were far along enough in their development before the food disappeared. It is best to keep all dried food in seal-able containers for a couple of months after you have had an Indian meal moth infestation.

Potpourri, dried flower arrangements or artwork that contains dried plants, seeds, or pasta are common sources of Indian meal moths in livings spaces away from the kitchen. It is good to look for and inspect these types of things for moth activity. If you find something that has been fed on or has active moth larvae on it, place it in a plastic bag, seal it up and throw it away. If it is something that you don't want to discard, place the bagged material in the freezer for 1 week. This will kill all stages of the moth.

@InsectsLimited
@InsectsLimited 2 жыл бұрын
The larvae will often crawl up to the ceiling when they are full sized and ready to pupate (make a cocoon) before emerging as adult moths. The food that the larvae are feeding on (seeds, grains, potpourri, etc) is usually situated right below where you are finding them on the ceiling. Try to figure out what that may be and then either bag it up and throw it away or stick it in a freezer for two weeks if it is something that you want to keep.

the music and the tone make it sound all nice and fun. these little bastards are very difficult to eradicate once theyve burrowed into your home. the up to 40 week cycle is torturous. you have to use traps to catch the males, and find and kill females as they emerge before they find a male to mate with.
