Great tips. This was me last weekend. Made me realize it could be linked to my "broken" wrist injury last year. Weaker wrist = wrist with more pins n needles. Strength work required 👍

Defo Jude. Strength work plus some stretching. You are pushing your cycling towards new highs all the time so keep the off bike work progressing. 👍👍👍

No joke. Leaving this comment now while my hands are tingling a little after a long ride. Doesn’t matter what gloves I use. Padded or not.

Great video, i had this trouble for a long time spent ages swapping and changing set up then after a visit to doctors found out it was Carpel tunnel, had both hands operated on seem ok now. Would really like you to discuss painful glutes at some point. If you already have i missed it.

I'm late to this video, but I'd like to say thanks for your information. I recently bought the proper sized bike for my height, but I've been struggling to get a comfortable fit on it. Because of your videos, I'll be swapping out the 172.5 cranks that came with the bike to 165 to reduce the drop to the bars and take pressure off my hands. I am 5' 11" on a 55cm Orbea Avant, but I have a rather short inseam, basically evenly proportioned re: torso length, leg length and arm length. The slightly shorter cranks should allow me to lower my saddle height a bit, reduce the pressure on my hands and protect my hips. As I get older, these small adjustments are more critical to riding without pain. If I could, I'd happily travel from the U.S. to Scotland to have you personally assist me. Thanks again.

absolutely, you're sitting there and everything else moves around it. which means you need to stabilize and you have to do that from the center of the body especially when putting out more power because you will get a sore low back even if you have a perfect bike fit.

Hello coach! I'm using a hybrid bicycle flat bar. I really like touring and gravel. the size of my bicycle is small and my height is 175 cm. before bike fitting, around 25 km, I've got tingling and shoulder problems. I'm joining the bike fitting. what it changed: - Increase stem from 60 mm to 80 mm - changed standard handlebar using Ergon grip - brake lever position is more to downsize - i have habbit to put my thumb at shimano shifter before change to SRAM. i don't know is this have effect or not? just my problem until now is my right little finger and ring finger get tingling. the tingling effect it's from my little finger to the near wrist. and my left hand never feels tingling again and my shoulder is still fine until 150 km. do you think where I should fix it, coach?

Good video as always. 👍👍, i have a question, my wife use 80mm stem but the reach still too far , im thinkin to use 70mm stem. Is it safe using 70mm stem on a roadbike? Note : The size of the bike already small (44cm) and the seatpost already zero offset
@BulletproofCycling
@BulletproofCycling 2 жыл бұрын
Good question and something I see a lot in studio. At 70mm from 80mm it shouldn’t have too much change to the feel or steering arc. High speeds on decents will not be as smooth but this may not be something she does. I have set up female racers with 60mm (not ideal) for races and they have done well.

Hi coach. I'm coming to a road bike from a hybrid ( late, I'm 50!) and struggling with pins and needles in my left arm. I've tried messing about with saddle for and aft, and flipped my stem up. Wondered what else you might suggest? Is it worth me trying a shorter stem to get some weight off the bars or a longer head? Cheers. Mark
@BulletproofCycling
@BulletproofCycling Жыл бұрын
You can try shorter stem but also check bar width versus shoulder width 👍👍👍

Check possible inflammatory disease effects- I have had anklyosing Spondylitis that was undiagnosed 40 years…I am in mid 70s, lifelong hp athlete in DH skiing, bike racing…and have twisted lower spine, hips..cannot be fixed…but means right hand takes extra weight…by using lower seat height I allow for ravages..less power…and I do the strength/stretch stuff..

How far behind the 1. metatarsal do you place the cleat? My bikefitter placed mine 10-12mm behind the 1. metatarsal is that normal?

It depends on your foot length plus how you pedal - if you are very toe down it helps more. Hope it feels good and you are enjoying your cycling 👍

I only get numbness using drop bars... NEVER on my mountain bike with 760mm bars. 50 mile rides on my mountain bike with ZERO numbness. Riding on the hoods pinches nerves.

I ride MTB's and only occasional the roadie but only seem to get numb index fingers and sore palm pad on the hands outer (pinky) hter about 70-90 minuites If I haven't ridden for a couple of weeks but after a few rides through the week lessof a problem and just put it down to gripping the bar too tight. My wrist gets a workout, well one of them anyway. 😂

I've had good luck with ergon grips. The ones with the big rubber paddles. Spending some time getting the angle of the grips on your bars is time well spent and key. Not cheap but some of the best bike $ I've ever spent. I second the recommendations for strength training. Especially hand wrist strength. Most endurance athletes are very phobic and hesitant when it comes to strength. I recommend working pinch and crush grip plus some time working on the muscles that open your hands. A rubber band or 5 around the outside of your 5 fingers and simply opening your fingers.

How often do you fit insoles in shoes? Which insoles do you use?
@BulletproofCycling
@BulletproofCycling 2 жыл бұрын
Never fit insoles - taken more out Martin than seen go in! I only ever advise peoples to get them when there is a medical diagnosis. I actually removed a shim yesterday from a rider who didn’t need it. Think about functional physical development first if you can 👍
@DevelopingNL
@DevelopingNL 2 жыл бұрын
@@BulletproofCycling so you never use wedges, insoles or anything like it?
@BulletproofCycling
@BulletproofCycling 2 жыл бұрын
@@DevelopingNL I have used wedges on people who have clear medical issues of leg length issues. I have lots of offers from companies to push their insoles but I work without them due to many folks being able to correct issues with exercise. If people want them or are looking for one I clearly inform them that I am not your person. 👍
