in middle eastern culture, Cumin is the essential spice to combat bloating. Cumin is a must ingredient in all legume dishes. And a small spoonful of cumin is prescribed for a person who is suffering from gasses. please try it and let me know if it helps. Maybe Cumin encourages the right bacteria that helps to digest legumes.

Don't take it so literally please. I watched 'Earthlings' (the vegan maker) one Sunday morning 2 years ago and went Vegan immediately.. I followed a strict whole food plant based diet, also stopped cooking with oil. It was not easy, my body went into shock with the sudden change. All of my food was rich in fibre ... so it was not 100 percent, maybe 99 percent? ha!

The mild discomfort I felt when I became vegan, which I'd researched and knew would go away, was NOTHING compared to what happened to me after Christmas Eve. My fiancé and I made dinner for eight omnivores, which translated to a whole lot of meat replacements and salty, fatty food, and also to us being the only ones eating the leftovers even though everyone liked the food. After months of eating mainly HCLF whole foods, a week of meals like that had both of us in legitimate pain. Stay healthy, folks.

Oh god yes, Holidays are a killer. I managed to prepare healthy meals but also got a LOT of vegan candy, chocolates, marcipan.... pretty much every item containing COPIOUS amounts of sugar. I ate so much at once for two or three days a row that later I had such a low of blood sugar it was as if I've been sleeping for 3 hours for two weeks (aka exam session) and even got emotionally unstable which isn't normal in my age. My god, never again, and I don't even want to talk about what it's done to my skin and the gut bacteria (the yeast surely had a feast lmao)

A lot of people drink way too much liquid with their meal, which dilutes stomach acids as well and makes things harder to digest. It's important to be very well hydrated, by drink in between meals and keep your liquids light during and after eating.

My experience was that after a few months of being vegan I was getting mild bloating and gas in the afternoon (after lunch) that would get progressively worse as the day went on. It got to the point where I was balled up in bed most nights in a lot of discomfort. I sent Mike a message (he never responded :( :( :( , but did make this vid!!!!!) It turned out my breakfast of a cup of oatmeal with blueberries, lots of seeds and other healthy stuff was about 24-30 grams of fiber to start my day.... just too much for me, apparently. In the future my gut may be able to handle that, but I'll wait a few more months until I try it again. Just reducing my oatmeal to a 1/2 cup solved the issue. It was something I found on accident after eating toast for a few days (was sick, whole grain toast just felt right lol). Hope this helps someone!

I also had this problem, however it was because I actually had an ‘oatmeal allergy’ which I didn’t know was a thing, but I’m glad I’m not the only one who experienced this! Sorry for the late response but it may not be fiber!

For me it was really helpful to realize that where before I was eating a whole cup (dry) oatmeal, cooked, with a banana and some raisins, I was now eating it with berries, cranberries, blackberries, nuts and seeds, flaxseed, and some spices, and even some beans, and it just became way to big of a breakfast. So I cut back the oatmeal by half, or more than half, and kept all the good 'toppings'. And it's way better for me now, so the problem wasn't the amount of fiber, which is still very high, but the fact I kept the amount of oatmeal the same as I was adding nutrient dense foods. This is just a breakfast tweak, but it was so important for me. And it translates to other meals as well: as I add legumes, the (processed or whole) grains will have to come down from the amount or ratio of the whole meal that I was having before. It's a whole new world, nobody close around me eats this way so I have to figure it out as I go. And it really helps to tweak as I listen to my body.

What's to manage? With beans, sprout then cook the low and slow overnight. I cook beans once a week or less and have beans daily, without excess gas. Eating some leafy greens, broccoli, and cabbage can make you become a trumpeter. Learn what way to prepare foods to get the highest nutrition. A high speed blender should also help you cut down on gas for those cruciferous veggies, if you would like them in a drink. If you eat larger amounts of veggies that give you gas, pair them up with things that will slow down your flora hopefully, like garlic, ginger or cinnamon. Or take one of those pills that include the enzymes needed to break down complex sugars, like beano. The only issue that you have to live with is defecating massive amounts more than once a day if you eat good. I turned from someone who could wait forever to actually go after the need was felt, to omfg I need to let this monster out now, because another monster was in line as well. The large intestine is only so big, and I make full use of it now 😂

I've been vegan almost a month now and still experiencing bloating too. I just figured it was normal for HCLF vegans, so I'm glad to hear it's only temporary. And I'm also having bowel movements way more frequently compared to when I was an omnivore. It feels good knowing rotting flesh and processed foods aren't stuck in my intestines for days. Sorry to get so graphic, but I love how being vegan normalizes one's body.

I've had intermittent problems where the diet affected my sleep occasionally due to stomach problems/digestion issues - -but since the Pandemic (2020) and the closing of my gym - I've had a MASSIVE problem with digestion. I did a lot of desparate things and now I realize I have to increase my exercise as a large part of the diet. Water consumption helps. But its NOT always about Just Newly transitioning to a vegan diet. (I get so tired of that)

Folks were chatting about how to dig the tiniest hole to dump in while out in the countryside (on Camino in Spain) so as not to demolish the landscape, also lots of talk about stepping in used toilet paper, you get the gist. I said I'm a vegetarian, peristalsis kicks in like clockwork right after breakfast, then I get busy before hitting the trail, consequently I never have to do what bears do in the woods. Well, MUCH embarrassed laughter and disbelief. People seemed to think I was crazy, or a liar, or a crazy liar. P.S., my brother-in-law ended up with colon cancer. He lives in Canada, ate eggs, bacon, sausages, etc., for breakfast every day of his life (approx 60 yrs old). He's OK now, 5 years coming up. Fingers crossed. I don't know if his diet has changed. The Canuckian gang (I live in Australia) think I'm a crazy communist vegetarian. Not crazy. Bloating? - no.

I had bloating etc most of the time being veggie and even worse as a vegan, which I really hoped would go away as my body adjusted (it didn’t!). But now I know it was never the fibre giving me issues, it was a specific group of fermentable sugars (FODMAPs). Interestingly most people struggle with them to some extent. Such a relief to finally understand how to eat wholefood plant-based without feeling terrible all the time ☺️ basically very little onion, garlic, wheat, legumes and fruits high in fructose, which is quite doable and sooo much more comfortable👌

Carrie Gill yes. I'm so glad you shared this, because I felt this was important information that was missing from the video. More people need to know about fodmaps. It has helped me a lot (and I'm not vegan, just FYI). Interesting, now they say just 6 weeks low fodmaps then try to gradually increase your tolerance. It's important to know what else can help the gut heal. All the best!

Aw yay! Discovering it was totally one those "Wooaahhh, it all makes sense now!" moments 😅 And why it seemed like the healthier I ate, the worse I felt. Btw, (shameless plug) I started a KZbin channel about it because there wasn't much out there on lowFODMAP plant-based diets and it's created a lovely little community of digestively-challenged vegans ☺️ xx

for some people soy is a "food sensitive" which isn't the same as allergy but still can irritate your body to some degree, and this kind of irritations often also cause acne to appear. i'd recommend switching to oat milk as it's not as sugary as rice milk but isn't commonly an irritant. another thing is a vegan diet often leading to more carbohydrates in your diet, potentially more fruit juice which is not actually healthy, unlike normal whole fruit. for some ppl the candida overgrowth is precisely what causes their skin condition to worsen, and some new vegans fall into this trap, I'd advise you to google for a yeast free vegan diet online. these tend to be very restricting but if your symptoms aren't severe, just try to cut out the most harmful things (processed sugar, dried fruit, fruit juice, beer (because it often contains live yeast), bread with yeast etc, and types of nuts that often get moldy (plus strawberries and a few other kinds of fruit). it helped me greatly tbh! both for acne and bloating :D. my skin is even less oily but at the same time has a nice glow to it

Going for cooked food in the beginning helps too. Not putting vegies into your smoothie also and in general avoid mixing fruit and vegies/starches/legumes. legumes should be limited to a cup of cooked ones a day anyway, says Dr. Mcdugall. Soaking them is essential, sprouting, cooking and peeling is best. Oh and whole grains should be soaked over night before cooking to. You always want to break down the starches as much as possible before eating them, otherwise you cannot digest them and your gutt bacteria will resulting in gas. Fruit should always be allowed to pass your small intestins as quickly as possible otherwise it ferments resulting in... thats right, also gas. Soaking, cooking, and fruit only first thing in the morning.

Wouldn't a quality probiotic help adjust the gut bacteria as well to better process the fiber/nutrients and combat the candida mentioned in the video? Also make sure you're drinking enough water in between meals (not during unless drinking lemon/lime water to help digestion) to keep the bowels lubricated from the excess fiber intake to soften those slow traveling poops that may be causing the bloating and gas lol so there's less bulky buildup. These two things I feel helped me the most other than being full plant based of course ^_^. I drink a liter of warm Lime water in the morning + probiotic an hour after to start my day and drink a gallon of water throughout the day. And not only do I have a lot of weight to lose after transition from a typical SAD diet + extreme sugar addiction & binge eating habits, but it's (the probiotic from what I've researched) that helped with severe depression and anxiety, palpitations & tachycardia episodes (resting heart rate 100-110 & heart would shoot to 177 for no known reason and stay above 130bm for days) squeezing chest pains (undiagnosed but ER drs speculated due to "anxiety" or gerds but never confirmed any stomach issues), IBS symptoms and so much more. I just think my heart and body were stressed from the weight and unhealthy lifestyle. Being on a full plant based lifestyle helped the most though, but with these 2 techniques (staying hydrated + vegan probiotic supplement), I'm very regular and never had problems with gas or bloating that I can recall after over a month diving in full force back in November. Just hoping it may help someone else!

So if you don't want to wait for shipping I'd check your local Walmart or health food store first :)

Are you able to take grains? That's the only thing that bothers me. I'm thinking about adding probiotics as well to see if that helps.
@-Lovely-Vee-
@-Lovely-Vee- 6 жыл бұрын
Fred Dafish Yes, I'm able to eat grains, but I limit what I eat. I only eat amaranth, kamut, hemp seeds, quinoa, buckwheat noodles, oats, and chia seeds. I reccomend amaranth and hemp seeds though. It's the easiest on my stomach and I don't have that "heavy" weighed down feeling before it passes through. AMAZING pre & postworkout food too and both have an awesome nutritional profile! If you have trouble digesting and aren't on any medication, I'd reccomend researching digestive enzymes too! BUT probiotics do help with digestion also :). Also, nature intended for grains to be hard to digest because of the phytic acid coating. It protects the seeds/grains from being digested by stomach acids so they pass through your bowels and ensure that they are able to still grow in soil. So rule of thumb for me & what's helped the most is that I always sprout grains that I have to cook, before eating them, by soaking & rinsing a few times (until the water runs clear) them letting them soak for at least 8 hours at room temperature, in a bowl with a plate covering (but I usually let them soak half a day and then overnight so minimum 16 hours for me). And then my hemp seeds which usually come pre-rinsed & oats & sometimes my other grains, I grind them up in a coffee grinder to break them open so that my body has less to break down and is able to extract more nutrients from the seeds. And to keep them fresh I store the ground seeds/grains in a quart sized, glass mason jar in the fridge ^_^ because once they are cracked open the natural oils will spoil quickly if not kept cool. I hope you find a solution of you're seeking to add grains back to your diet!

Bonnie Rabold Same!! I’ve actually made my KZbin channel about it because I couldn’t find much out there on it for vegans. If you are sensitive to onions, it’s likely the high amounts of oligosaccharides in them. Which are also found in garlic, wheat and some soya products. I spent so long being uncomfortable/in pain waiting for my body to adjust 😣 when I just need to cut down certain foods x

Hey Carrie! Feels nice to see other people in the same situation. Did you start having digestive issues after going vegan ? For me it's the case, and I think increasing my FODMAPs intake could be the reason. I did the Low FODMAPs diet for 3 weeks but nothing changed. I am going to try again for longer this time but it's very hard since I don't react to anything, I am just always bloated and filled with trapped gas that causes me pain, so it's hard to tell what I can eat/can't eat without following guidelines :/ Thanks for your channel it's been very useful!! :)
