I have been a nurse for 7 years and have tried many different settings. Nothing is working. I get more and more burnt every day. Unfortunately it’s easy to get stuck in it in a small town because it pays relatively well. If you’re young…..get out now. Do something else.

Although I love this entire conversation, I wrote down and will share: "exhaustion is not a requirement for rest." Thank you for the fantastic advice and ways of thinking. Very valuable.

I threw my hands up and quit. Graduated in 2022. Eaten alive is a real thing. I think it's time to unionize. Four months in a clinic, 8 months in a hospital. Going to try home care next. Been home 3 months now and still don't feel right.

What a great video!! As a counselor who has come out of retirement to do Teledoc and EAP Counseling and Life Coaching to help people struggling with anxiety and burnout, you have just solidified the value and my need to offer even more specialized services to healthcare workers!. Great resources! Thanks so much!

When a superior makes you feel bad for saying no is what makes it hard. I know I’m so burned out and I have no self-compassion. I’ve pushed myself in nursing for 18 years. Experiencing bullying and watching incivility all around me…..it has destroyed my identity. I just don’t have the heart for it anymore but I don’t know what to do now. I pushed myself through a MSN thinking it would put me on track to a better space, but it hasn’t happened.

As a new nurse this is gold. This was the valuable wisdom I needed to go into my 3rd week. A big one I’m noticing is boundaries with co-worker gossip
@laurenhills2394 жыл бұрын
I learned real quick not to trust any of them because whatever you say will spread like wildfire. They are not your friends 99%, and it should stay a professional coworker relationship is what I have to remind myself. It can be tempting to think they really have your back, but in reality most of them are fake and will throw you under the bus so quick if they benefit from it.

It's certainly tough to deal with. Don't initiate it, and when the conversation starts to go there, my tip is to counter the negative thing they said with a positive one while steering the convo elsewhere. "Omg Melissa is the worst at report. It takes her FOREVER to get through 3 lab values.." .... "Yea. Did you hear she's going back for her master's? I'm thinking about getting mine. Not sure if I wanna do the NP route tho". It creates an organic conversation transition. Another tip is to also be engaged and really interested when not talking about gossip, and then if the convo goes there, seem incredibly bored or disconnected by it. It's not as fun to gossip with someone who doesn't care or who always changes the convo to something else. We tend to think people should take this huge stand when someone gossips, but it's so subtle and small comments, so a big stand looks like a disproportionate response... or you don't really realize how uncool it was until reflecting later. Little nudges of steering the convo elsewhere and changing how entertained we are by the topic goes a long way!

Get to know the right nurses who will become your real ride or die. Take time to get to know ppl. we all need support at work its important. obviously not everyone will be your friend weed out who is who!! Gossip will be everywhere, its hard to avoid but don't feed into it, listen it tell you alot about ppl!!

Validating many k feelings. Many times I press on through findinthat later it resurfaces in response to another situation. If one does this enough times it turn into a giant ball of ugliness. I am forever grateful for this video.

I'm a nurse tech in a rehab facility and have always done geriatrics LTC. We techs or CNAs whatever we're called now are way more prone to burn out. At least in facilities because not only do we do the hardest dirtiest work as the grunts but the lack of respect that the field has for us and the fact the public has no idea who we are. It's crazy. During this pandemic we only hear about nurse but that's not too unusual. We stand in the shadows. You rarely hear about them or even from them. It's like we don't exist and after 28 years it's time for me to fly. I made a lot of money for a lot of facilities because we are the money makers and been looked down on the whole time. At least nurses can vent and are recognized and never do you hear a nurse tell anyone that they have a lackey to do the hard, dirty stuff.

I am a tech right now and I get a lot of shit from coworkers about calling off. I have FMLA and there is weeks where I can't balance school, work, and my home life. And sometimes I have to use it and it kills me to put myself first. I hate having to cut my hours, I hate doubting my ER but I just can't. I also have coworkers that pick up all of the time for the money and it is so sad because most of the time it is taxed and they don't get any extra money.

Hi I’m so glad I found this video. I’m very interested in attending your assertiveness class you mentioned but I am not an ICU nurse. Is there any way around this or I can just take that specific class? Thank you so much.
@freshrn4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole! I haven't created that course dedicated to assertiveness alone yet, hoping to do so in 2021. Breakthrough ICU and the New Nurse Master Class both have modules on assertiveness!
