Very cool. It would interesting to bleach out an area and then use the fabric paint spray in the bleached area like discharge printing. I used to do something similar in High School to my jean jackets. Since then I worked in screen printing for 25 years. Thanks for the lesson!

Autumn 89 or maybe it is people that know that the bleach will destroy the shirt and after a few washings, the shirt falls apart. Do you know how I know this, I had a T shirt apparel company and we looked into doing a line called “Bleacher Bums” shirts, basically tie dye shirts, but using bleach. No matter what we did to try and neutralize the bleach, the shirts would not hold up to continued washings. Couldn’t sell a product that would fail after a dozen or so washes.

Much appreciated! The results here are pretty nice. I just did my 1st stencil design using poster board, and your technique with the freezer paper addresses the overspray/bleeding problems that I had. Just one question though: Assuming you’re able to remove the stencil intact, will you be able to adhere it to the next garment as well as you did on the 1st one, or does it diminish over multiple uses? The ideal for me would be to do multiple pieces with reusable stencils.

@Mark Gannett Very true! Inhaling bleach causes damage to your lungs and organs. Additionally, chlorine-based bleach can damage your skin and eyes. If left on skin, bleach can cause irritation and burning. Inhalation of bleach can cause nervous system and brain damage, dermal contact of bleach can cause rash and burning. Many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or throat, or cause headaches and other health problems, including cancer.

Hi Karen. If you're close to the Western Massachusetts area, I sponsor & work at a 3 day long outdoor concert known as RPMfest. The next one, providing the world doesn't end, will happen from 9/4 - 9/7/ 2020. Granted, bands will be selling their own tees, but, you might be able to get some $ & recognition for your own business. The vending price for a spot ranges from 150.00 to 200.00 but,it covers you being there for all 3 days of the show. For more info, please check out info@rpmfest.org Thanks for your time! What are the washing instructions for the shirts? Do they need to be hand washed or can they go into the washer separately.? or with other clothing? Just wondering if any colors or bleach will run onto other clothing. Also should they be air or tumbled dried? Can't wait to start this project so thank you so much for sharing!!!

Don't use swimming pool bleach, it's 12 percent concentrated vs 5 or 6%. I have holes in pants from that stuff, that's why I'd wear pants when servicing swimming pools. One time through the wash and the holes show up. This might save someone from disappointment.
