Looking for recommendations for fur processing beaver. Getting halfway decent at skinning now. What knife do you recommend for skinning and fleshing? And any particular board? Thanks for the help! Love your channel.

What a life to be a processors dog. I just dropped in cause i trapped a pesky beaver on our property today.. Now to get him skinned. He is going to end up on the wall.. So do you do, salt the skin side once you stretch it out. How long to leave on the stretcher.

Hi...wow...i did my first yesterday. It was a UP Mi beaver and large. It seemed WAY fatter than this one and man was it a trip, both to skin and especially to scrape. Are some tougher than others? Is your scraper blade sharp ? I do deer hides and they scrape about like you made this beaver look, in terms of stuff coming off, and telatively clean. I actually couldn't get all the fatty stuff off. Thanks for the video.

Is it just set out to dry after it’s pinned to the board? And tanning solution?
@330Maniac5 жыл бұрын
No tanning solution. Just set out to dry. After dried they are sold to someone and then sent off to be tanned and such
@eltigredetejas23283 жыл бұрын
This is the single most thing I regret not doing in 2011 when my college campus flooded and they counted on me to get the job done. I should have tanned all those hides myself and kept them.

If we had a race, and I just had to board my beaver he would win! Gosh, that was fast. Are fleshing tools as sharp as a knife ?
@Baker-tx7yg4 жыл бұрын
Fleshing knives are meant to be razor sharp with a single bevel. But the part where he gets down near the end of the pelt and he starts forcefully pushing... he has actually flipped the knife over and is using the back side of the blade to "push" the fat. It's a little easier.
