I just want to say thank you for your great tutorials. I consider them to be the best on KZbin. In fact, I would say, even compared to what I learnt at High School. I have been sewing different items for some years but II always had a problem with getting them to look properly finished. So I spent several years watching sewing tutorials on KZbin and never quite found one that kept me from losing my way or getting distracted until I found your tutorials. I actually started from your Beginners Sewing tutorials because i knew I needed to finetune what I knew already and I am soooo glad I did. My confidence and skills have grown ever since. So thank you thank you thank you for such well presented, incredibly informative tutorials.

@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Wendy, is the zip too far away from the top of the garment? Is that what you mean by gaping? I would only leave 1/8" (3mm) between the edge of the garment and the seam allowance that you will sew across the top of the garment. I think I cover this in the tutorial? x

@@MadetoSew Hi thanks so much for your reply. No the zip sticks out away from my back neck. I think I may need to reduce the width of my garment at the upper back but not too sure how to achieve this. Thanks again your tutorials are brilliant.
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 6 жыл бұрын
@@wendynicholss6886 Ok, I understand. Firstly did you stabilise the neck of the garment with stay tape or stay stitch first? Otherwise this can stretch? If so, then do you have a curve to the back of your neck? You may need a rounded back adjustment? I have plans for a video on this. x Thank you x

Hi there, thank you very much for your kind words. Yes I could suggest that you pre-wash your fabric to prevent any shrinkage later on. I would recommend that you pre-wash the fabric how to plan to wash it in the future. If the fabric is hand-wash only then hand wash the fabric. If it is machine washable then machine wash / tumble dry as well if you plan to do this in the future. I hope this helps? Aneka

Hey! Could I use this technique to insert a invisible zip in a dress with a neckband/collar? The neckband is two pieces of fabric, not one that is folded over. I would first attach the outer piece, insert the zipper, and than handle the collar piece that will sit against my skin as the facing in your video. Would that work?

@@MadetoSew Thanks for offering this much help, that's amazing! I'll make pictures later this week and mail them to you. I've been watching your other videos as well, and you're instructions are so clear, detailed and slow. Love it! Anyone who's told me you cannot learn to sew without taking classes never found your channel ;)!

I've been wondering how to get a really neat finish at the top of an invisible zip for ages! I wonder if you would mind doing another the same but using a bias tape instead of a facing? Would it be the same?

Hi Kathleen, of course I will do one with a bias neckline over the coming months. Stay tuned. Thank you for the idea. Aneka

Do I cut off that extra inch at the top of the zipper before I install the zipper?
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 3 жыл бұрын
I don't usually for an invisible zipper. I trim that (if required) only at the end of sewing it.

It would be really helpful if you would do this demo with a plain fabric and contrasting thread colors.
