How To Program A Ford Edge Smart Key Remote Fob 2011 - 2015

Ensure that your Edge is off before beginning this procedure. Ensure that all doors are closed before beginning this procedure and that all doors remain closed throughout the procedure. Perform this procedure exactly as described below, and perform all steps within 30 seconds of starting the sequence. If any steps are performed out of sequence, stop and wait for at least one minute before starting again. Please read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.
1. Place the new unprogrammed smart key in the pocket inside of the center console.
2. Press the driver or passenger power door unlock control three times.
3. Press and release the brake pedal one time.
4. Press the driver or passenger power door lock control three times.
5. Press and release the brake pedal one time. The indicator on the Start/Stop button should begin to rapidly flash, indicating that programming mode has been entered and two programmed smart keys have been detected in the vehicle.
6. Within one minute, press the start/stop button. *If four Intelligent Access Keys have already been programmed to your vehicle, the message MAX # OF FOBS LEARNED will be displayed on the message center. *
7. Remove the smart key from the center console pocket and press the UNLOCK or Lock control on the newly programmed smart key to exit programming mode.
8. Verify that the remote entry functions operate (lock, unlock) and that the vehicle starts with new smart key. If the smart key has been successfully programmed, it can be used to activate the smart key with push button Start feature and can be used to start your vehicle.

Worked like a charm. I bought a used Flex and one of the fobs was worn out. I took it apart and fooled around with it, swapped out pieces with the working fob, and got it to partly work, along with the one functioning fob I already had. I followed these instructions and it worked perfectly. The only difference was the spot in the console to charge the new fob was different from this example, but that was outlined in the owner's manual, under "Security." I'll program a third one now, so that I'll always have two good ones. Thanks!

How important is putting the new one in the slot in the console? I have a 2013 Ford Escape that uses the EXACT same key, but there is no slot so it won't work. Where you show the slot, mine has video and audio inputs.

Unfortunately, your 2013 Ford Escape is not onboard programmable, there is no manual way to program a smart key for it.

Hi I have a 2010 Lincoln MKT with a Ford installed remote start module. I have push button start and tried to get into programming mode in order to have the vehicle running when doors are opened. I hold the push button untill it goes into run mode and than hold the programming button and the brake pedal, but I never hear any horn sounds. Do you know if their is a different method to get into programming in the 2010 Lincoln MKT? Thanks

I got a second key using one key with a $70 universal EZ programmer for my 2017 edge. Figure it is about how much a locksmith would charge. now i just need to get the new fobs emergency key cut somewhere and figure out how to wipe the 3rd key I don't have from my car. Where ever the used car lot got my car they didn't get the second fob with it.

It may take a few tries, some vehicles are more sensitive than others to the speed in which you are doing all the steps. Make sure to open and close the drivers door a few times in between attempts before trying again to "reset" before trying again.

I know the 2 already programmed fobs need to be in the vehicle in order to get it into programming mode (stop/start flashing) but I am not sure if the vehicle will go into programming mode without a new fob in the console pocket, I've never tried it.

OK I figured it out, the reason it didn't work for me was a intermittent door switch witch is OK now..I programed my 3rd key with these instructions (2011 Ford Edge) also I removed the key fob from the console pocket and went through the same procedure and the start/stop light blinked just as it did with the spare fob in the pocket..

If your remotes are all working but none of them start the car, it sounds like you may have a deeper issue than the remotes themselves. I would recommend getting in touch with a mechanic or Dealership.

I looked in the comments, trying to see if anyone had a similar issue so you would not have to repeat yourself, and I didn't see anything, though I may have missed it. I'm sorry if so. My Ford Edge has only one key, came that way from dealership. There ARE two programmed, but we only got one, as they only had the one when we got the used car. Is this possible? Or must we have 2 physical keys in our hands?

Actually, there is. I have a 2018 Flex limited. I was able to program a key using these instructions, for the type of key shown. The only thing that was different is that the pocket the new fob must be inserted into is on the drivers side of the center console, towards the back. He fob must be inserted with the key ring end back, and the buttons facing the passengers side.
