How to program GMC Yukon remote key fob 2000 - 2006

An easy to follow video on how to program a remote key fob for a 2000 - 2006 GMC Yukon.

1. Close all vehicle doors.
2. Insert the key into the ignition.
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold down until instructed to release in step 9.
4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.
10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks. This step may take up to 30 seconds.
11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Same. I have the same year Yukon. When I push the two buttons at the same time on the key fob, the locks engage after about 15 to 20 seconds, but when I take the truck out of program mode the key fob does not work.😢

Hello. I am trying to program a brand new replacement key fob for my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. As mentioned the key fob is brand new, with brand new working batteries. I have followed/repeated the entire insert key, hold down unlock button, turn ignition off/on twice, wait for the lock to cycle, press and hold lock/unlock on fob simultaneously. But the lock never cycles therefore the Tahoe never enters programming mode. As a side note, I know that the locks are capable of cycling. Because when I pull and hold the bright light lever while cycling the key twice to program my desired door lock/unlock sequence the locks will actually cycle, the same way that they should when programming the key fobs. Can you please share some troubleshooting steps that might help me diagnose why my Tahoe won't enter programming mode so that I can program my new key fobs? Thank you.

You need to program all the remotes you want to work for the vehicle during the procedure. Take a look at the steps in the description box of the video and look at step 11

Check the settings on your cluster via your buttons on the wheel. It could be that is the setting it currently has.

Some vehicles are more sensitive than others when it comes to the speed in which you do the steps. most people tend to go to slow. Make sure to take the key our of the ignition and open and close the drivers door a few times to "reset" before trying again

The order in which you program the fobs in will determine the driver #. So the first fob programmed will be recognized as Driver 1 and the second fob will be Driver 2

I would start by hooking up a OBD port scanner to see what codes the vehicles is putting out when the engine light comes on. Most auto part stores will do it for free

On my driver information it says "driver one" for my OEM remote fob, if I add a second one will it auto program it as driver two? Its because I purchased a used OEM fob from ebay but it also has the number 1 on the back just like mine. Does that matter? Thanks

Yes, the vehicle will recognize the second one as Driver 2. The vehicle can't tell what numbers are printed on the back of the remote ( some don't even have driver numbers ) - it just goes off the order in which the remotes are programmed in.

Didn't work for my 2004 Yukon. Got in touch with them and they asked me for the GM number on my original remote then came back and said they'd sent me the wrong one. Good luck using their make/model/year lookup criteria and getting the right remote.

There are many different GM part numbers of fobs that will work on a 2004 Yukon. The only number that really matters is the FCC ID - It needs to be LHJ011

I had the same problem . The trick is to program the first , then without hesitation , hold both the lock and unlock on the second one . If you wait a minute after the first one , the system resets and will erase the first one as it programs the second one.

It's possible a fuse could cause issues. Some vehicles are much more sensitive than others when it comes to speed in which you are doing all the steps, most people tend to go to slow. The brand doesn't matter but it does need to be the correct key for your vehicle (the key needs to have the correct transponder chip)

Hon you program a new fob it disables the old one. You can only have one key fob working at a time. There must be a better way.

If you are getting the vehicle into programming mode but the fob won't respond - there may be an issue with the fob you are tying to use.

Are the doors locks cycling when you hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the remote, after you get the vehicle into programming mode. If so, then the battery is not dead and the vehicle is at least recognizing the remote

It doesn’t have anything to do with the battery if your locks are cycling after pressing the buttons on the remote. You could try a different remote, but it sounds more like an issue with the vehicle itself not holding the programming. I wouldn’t think it is a fuse, or again the locks wouldn’t cycle, but doesn’t hurt to check.
