How to Program Key Fobs on My 02 Silverado / Old Chevy Vehicles (1997-2007 Silverado Suburban Tahoe)

Worked for my 2002 yukon denali. But save some time you only need to watch minute's 4:14 to 6:00. Or 1. Insert key. 2. Hold down unlock. 3. Switch to on positition, switch off, switch to on position, and again switch off. "Release unlock" Vehicle will lock and unlock signaling you entered pairing mode. 5. Hold unlock and lock buttons on key fob. 6. Turn key to on position and turn off and remove key. 7. You can test your key fob if done correctly you now have a new key.

Hells yeah! Absolutely LOVE my 02'! 195k and STILL screamin'! Will go to my grave owning this vehicle! Nothing but problems with this new crap that you need a mortgage loan to pay for. The money I have paid to keep my beast on the road is so worth it. Still does not touch the cost of a new one...screw them imo.

At 600,000 with my 02 Silverado, third transmission, but engine is going although lacking on towing capacity and loads. Just bought an 01 Silverado with 240,000 to use as I get my 02 back in shape.

I have been unable to get my 2002 Tahoe Fobs to work. I have bought new ones but they wont seem to program either. Is it possible that there is a bad “module” or whatever the Fobs talk to is bad? Is there a way to know why they wont work? Thanks for any help you can give. Everett

Hi Everett! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your key fobs. It’s definitely possible that the issue could be with the Receiver Module. A few things you might check: - The compatibility of the new fobs. - Double-check that you're following the programming steps correctly. Nice! But that did not work on my 2001 Tahoe, nothing happens when I hold unlock and turn key to start twice - hm... (yes, all doors are closed)

It should be the same procedure: 1.Insert key into the ignition. 2.With all doors closed, hold down the unlock button. 3.Switch key to the on position, off, on, and off again. 4.Release the unlock button. If the Vehicle enters programming mode the door locks with cycle. Not sure what advice to give other than, If it doesn't go into programming mode you could have a faulty door switch (thinks one is still open), a faulty lock / unlock switch, or something causing the ecm to not recognize the sequence. A dealer or mechanic's shop can always force the car into programming mode for key fobs with a GM Tech II programmer. To pair new key fobs: Hold in unlock and lock buttons on key fob together. Do this for all remotes. Once done, turn the key to on position, off, and remove the key. Test all key fobs to verify programming.

I had the same issue. There is a little box in the dash to the left of the radio. Remove the radio, and unplug the wire from the box for 10 seconds. Then plug back in. Now try to do your remotes.

What happen when it only locks but won’t unlock

That is interesting. If it is an old remote I'd try replacing the battery. If it is a brand new one, it's possible the unlock button is broken, but you may try reprogramming it again just to make sure it took properly.

I just cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and it fixed it

Thought we did for a while! We were lucky enough to be able to buy it at the right time... but then realized we wouldn't be able to replace it if we got rid of it. So we decided to keep it for now. Unfortunately, can't really enjoy just driving it around right now with fuel prices - but it still gets used a ton towing for work
