Thanks for the discount code Matt! Got my new 2020 fob in and it works great! For those having issues programming in 99-07 truck/SUV, there are actually 2 ways to enter programming mode. In some vehicles, turning ignition on/off/on/off will result in locks cycling, but the truck wont actually program any fobs. You need to turn ignition from Run/Accessory/Run/Accessory. Locks will cycle, hold both buttons on fob down for 15 seconds, locks will cycle again. Turn ignition to Run, then off, truck will chirp to exit programming mode. This was done in my 2003 Silverado 2500HD.

@@Tia_kittygrrr do you use the factory fob or an aftermarket fob that came with the remote start kit? If it's factory fob, then the remote start kit is just looking for a lock pattern (usually either lock>unlock>lock like Matt's Tahoe, or lock x 3) and you can use any fob that will transmit to your Escalade, like these new style ones from Boost Auto. If this is the case, I highly suggest the 2020 style fob. I absolutely love it compared to the junky factory fobs our vehicles came with.

@@mariodorder322 no the new fob won't give you remote start. His does because he installed a remote start kit wich plugs into the computer he has a video on this. None of the stock full size GM trucks from 99 to 07 had remote start it was introduced in late 07 with the new body style.

We don't use ours enough to invest in the newer fobs (bought to pull a travel trailer) but my pleasure is in showing my wife that I can do some electronic things competently. @@mariahpotter2848 you don't, because that's not a later model. gmt800's still route starter relay power through the ignition, the "old school" way. Only tip-to-start or push-to-start vehicles have remote start capabilities from the factory, since the ECU sends a signal to the starter relay, not your ignition. Matt has an aftermarket kit installed in his Tahoe. You can find plug-n-play kits for 03+ online that just make you press the lock/unlock buttons in whatever pattern they chose.

I love this little upgrade idea! however i may be selling my 03 suburban some kid t boned me and was not insured. i got the truck nice and fixed up for cheap but the door they iinstalled just doesnt sit right and my wife wants a fuel efficient suv so i may be parting ways with my baby. I asked my dealer about buying a new original fob. They wanted almost $500 for it including programming to the car. That´s a lot for that little plastic thing... I´m in Europe so it´s probably cheaper in the US but $64 sounds really good :)

I have the first boost auto fob. After 7 months the chrome came off. I just bought some cheap eBay cases for the newer fob and swapped the chrome sides. That’s my only beef with it honestly. I like the 2020 style but $65 is too salty. I’ll wait for a sale.

What he neglected to mention is that you will need to purchase a programmer if you own a vehicle such as a 2013 Yukon or you won’t be able to program the fob to your vehicle. I understand most newer vehicles don’t require the use of a programmer so it’s a good idea to determine if your vehicle requires one.

I have a 2020 Tahoe with 89000 original miles on her. I saw your first video for the older key fob and I got two. After a couple of months they both stopped working. I tired to re program them and for some reason the lock and unlock didn't work. The panic kept working. Got in touch with Boost and they sent me two new ones at no charge and they have been working good. Only thing is the range on them aren't so good for the lock and unlock but the panic button has great range. I might try the new style once these die. Thanks for you videos as i get a lot of info and how to do from them to keep my Tahoe running and looking good

I had to do that for Cadillac key fobs that the rubberized coating fell off of. The cheap silicone covers look like new like 2+ years later.

Aftermarket kit that's wired into the truck. The truck has no way from the factory to start the engine without use of the ignition.

I spent $13 for a 3 button flip key fob on eBay. The shift lever won’t let you shift out of park so I just use the normal key as usual. Looks better than the 2020 imo

Well, I wish I knew about this back when I bought my Tahoe. I had no fob when I bought it, so I had an aftermarket security system installed. But, KNEW there was a factory security feature on the truck.

The key of a 2010 silverdo has to be programing or just go to lock smith an make a copy because i had an 2003 cadillac escalade and just made copy and i didnt had to do anything just like a regular key copy

Can confirm that the real 2015 and 2020 fobs will not work with older trucks. I did this when the 2015 fob came out and bought a real fob with chevy logo on it because it was 15 dollars cheaper and it would not pair. At that point I gave up and have been running the stock fobs until I saw this and just ordered a 2020 fob from boost auto and can't wait!

Also not sure if it's 2001 Tahoe specific but the panic button can't be pressed twice to turn it off. The key has to go in the ignition and start to disable.

Just ordered an eBay one for $12. I bet it will work just fine. I've never had a problem with eBay key fobs working. I buy a lot of cars from auctions that don't have fobs.

The boost fob has a custom board in it to work with the older trucks. Regular fobs wont program.

you can get a pair of aftermarket oem style fobs for $20 on ebay, that's the first thing i did for my 05 EXT when i bought it with only a spare key. never failed me

My 2015 Canyon fob faded after a year of light use. I bought the truck new (ordered it from the factory) and only have 30K miles on it 7 years later. They are just poorly printed with low grade ink. GM is getting better, but still cheap.

You also mention having janitor’s key. Not a fan of The 2020 fobs since you need an extra skinny key ring for it to swivel freely. Bigger/janitor key rings bind as they rotate on the fob

What is better about this key fob, other than the fact that it's fancy and beefier...?.. does the proximity work more, I find that my old key fob sucks and I can only lock or unlock the car from like 10 ft away, otherwise it just doesn't work

Oh hey, check out the lower left corner of the fob. There's a little "button" you depress and you pull away the key ring to eject a spare key. Granted it's a blank key blade for a 2020 Silverado and completely useless, but cool nonetheless..

I have just given up using the fob for my tahoe. Just use the key only. No issues with losing program, buttons not working, taking up space in my pocket. Old school simple. ;)

Twice now on trucks I’ve had, when the truck wouldn’t enter programming mode, I’ve had to replace the passenger power window switch. Once I did that, it worked no problem.

My 15ish fob has been holding up ok. It never goes in my pocket. I latch my keys to my belt loop or leave my keys in the truck. The problem I do have however is I always always accidentally set off the panic alarm
