FYI !!!!! Newer Schlage models is a “1” not a “3” to change program. Ao if you keep hitting a wall while programming a new number in, try number 1 instead of 3. Hope this helps. It did for me.

Oh man, this helped me out. The original code did not work after installation and I was using the pre programmed ones. Broke up and I couldn't change the code. The Schlager are great locks. I wished the angle (face door jamb) of the one we purchased was "longer" like some of the Weiser angle locks are. We were using ours outside on a wooden shed door. The weather tends to move the wooden door a bit and it won't lock properly We kept the (shed) Schlager for the house door and bought another lock a Weiser, for the shed door.

Just had to do this on mine and found the directions to reset to factory defaults int he book. You have to disconnect the battery and press the "Schlage" button on the front, then within 10 seconds reconnect the battery (the "Schlage" button will blink and beep) and press & hold the "Schlage" button until it lights green and the lock beeps. Then you can test one of the default user codes to make sure it reset correctly.

Do not confuse the 6 digit program codes with the 4 digit user codes. Normally there is not a need to reprogram your program codes. What you want to do is add new user code(s). These are the 4 digit codes. Follow the video on this and you will be succsssful.

When I do user code for the first time, can I use my own code or does it have to be what's on the instruction booklet. However, we do recommend not giving out the factory codes and changing your user codes from the factory codes as the factory codes will remain in the lock and if you give that code out to someone and then need to change it, every time you reset your lock you will have to remove that code.

I purchased a house a few years back with the Schlage keypad deadbolt. We werent given any codes, I've just been using a key which is a h0rrible experience (i'm the only one in the family who can actually do it!). I've just pulled it off the door, got the factory codes, done the reset process per instructions but it simply never accepts the default programming code or two user codes. Im doing the reset via 1. disconnect battery, 2. Press Schlage button, 3. Reconnect Battery - confirm green flash and beep, 4. Press and hold Schlage button until it stays on and beeps 5. Enter any of the user codes. At this point nothing happens for a while until it eventually beeps and flashes red. What am I missing here?

There are a few possible reasons this could be happening: An incorrect user code was entered , there was an error in programming, low batteries. Simply put the thumbturn in an upright position and it will remain in passage mode, allowing the lock to remain unlocked until you return the thumbturn to a horizontal position. This gonna sound odd and not even sure cause I dont want to hear one apart cause its brand spanking new. Lol. If you can get it apart n take the board loose n get behind the button from inside the lock something is flattened most likely n it isnt making that connection. A small ball of aluminum foil may work help. To fill that void if you will. Thats if thats the issue. Its worth the shot. I'm kinda up on the up on electronics but ive just bought one and dont have the issue n dont remember how tough it may have looked to get to it. I've got a lil memory effects from chemo but yet still very good...always had a vivid memory so its still good but..lol I havent torn one apart further than what it is in the box new before I installed it. Does it beep or light up, feel loose, stiff , like deflated if you will or no pressure against pushing it compared to the rest of the buttons?

Chris Thanks for reaching out to Schlage Support. The red light, beep followed by green light is a low battery indicator. Replace your battery with a Duracell Alkaline battery and that should resolve your issue.

If you have the same FE595 model as referenced in the video you should be able to remove the two screws holding the interior cover on. Once that cover is removed there is a small screw to the center left side of the baseplate. You can unscrew this with your hand. Once it is removed the lock should come off the door. Fortunately there is a programming sticker located inside the lock as well. To access the programming sticker, you will need to first remove the interior cover by unscrewing the two Phillips screws above and below the interior lever. Then, remove the "set screw" that is located towards the center of the mounting plate. Once these three screws have been removed, you can then slide the exterior keypad away from the door, exposing the sticker located directly behind the exterior keypad. Schlage + 1: The keyset is primed to enter a new 4-digit user code. Schlage + 2: The keyset is primed to delete an existing user code. Schlage +3: The keyset is primed to enter a new 6-digit programming code. Schlage +4: The keyset temporarily disables all user codes; or activates all user codes if they have been disabled. Schlage +5: The beeper function is disabled or enabled. Schlage +6: All user codes are deleted at the same time.

The C battery was almost dead and most of not had enough charge to move the deadbolt once the correct code was entered. I changed out the battery and it works perfectly fine now! There were no beeps when I programmed the lock. The sound was supposed to be the default setting.

We would recommend making sure the lock is flashing the correct color when trying to program your lock. Same thing happened to us. All of our locks just needed to take the battery out and reset it. Then we were able to program the door like the video.

There are a few possible reasons this could be happening: An incorrect user code was entered , there was an error in programming, low batteries. If you haven't changed the batteries, try doing so and see if that fixes it. If not, please give us a call at 888-805-9837 or email us at [e-mail] and we can help you troubleshoot the issue. Also, you might need to reset the programming code, as it might not be correct and that is why it only goes to the 4th number. Hi Bob, Our electronic locks come pre-programmed with 3 codes: 1.) User Code A (4-digits) 2.) User Code B (4-digits) 3.) Programming Code (6-digits) User code A and B are only there for testing the lock during installation. They will also continue to allow access until deleted. However the 6-digit programming code is what's used to program and make changes to the lock. The programming code will not allow access. You can find all three of these codes in two separate locations. One sticker can be found on the user's manual and one sticker can be found inside of the lock itself. Please verify you are using the correct code when following the procedures. Thanks, Jesse

There is a 6 digit SECURITY code on the sticker. Additionally, you will need your own FOUR digit USER code. The first part of this video tells you how to change the 6-digit SECURITY code. I skipped that. You only need about 30 seconds of this video to enter your own USER code(s). Start it about 2:50 and use the SIX digit SECURITY code (provided on the sticker). I entered the 6-digit code, waited, numbers turned blue, pressed the solid orange (Schlage) button and then "1". Top button turns solid orange after beeping, others are still blue. Enter your own FOUR digit code, wait for the solid orange again and enter the same FOUR digit USER code again. Presto. Don't forget to turn the lock handle on some models to lock/unlock after using the code.
