Hi! Christine, sorry for my question that is beyond the content of this video, but which variant of pronunciation of the word "twenty" (/twenti/ or /tweni/ should be given when it comes to teaching the beginners? It is also actual when we pronounce such word as "beauty"(with /t/ or /d/) and a wide range of other words with nuances in fluent speech. What is your opinion? What do you do when you work with people who get acquainted with the English words for the first time?

Hi, good question. I usually model the way I naturally say it (dropping the second t), and when beginners say "twen-tee" with the second /t/, I explain that it's not wrong, but that it's more common to hear that in the British accent. Same with the flap T of "beauty," I model the American accent. If the student wants to speak with an American accent and have a natural, fluent sounding speech, it's best to model natural speech. It's tempting as a teacher to slow down and articulate word by word, and for true beginners they may need that to be able to understand, but for pronunciation I think it's best to teach the fluent way right away. Otherwise people have to re-learn, which I feel is harder than just starting with the accent they want from the start.
