My grandmother was a Silva, I never had an issue pronouncing that one. But my own surname? Rodrigues. To make it worse, it’s been misspelled with a Q in place of G for 3 generations. I grew up correcting people constantly, because I always got called Rodriguez. And at a certain point, I realized my whole family pronounces it wrong anyway!. I don’t know where it started, but I’ve got a feeling it was probably school teachers not making an effort in the 1930s. Probably the same person that decided my great aunt should be called Beverly instead of Benvinda. Anyway, I’m going to be listening and practicing this on loop now. I’ll teach my father how to say his name properly.

And immigration people didn't bother to spell foreign names properly back then. "Rodriques" looks particularly weird. Glad you managed to correct it. :)
