I have a question. When t comes before n or ng should we use flap t? For example listen to me , or something to do
@EnglishValleyCafe
@EnglishValleyCafe 4 жыл бұрын
In the word "listen" the t is silent and in the word "something" it's the voiceless "th" (θ) sound.

If you live in Baltimore, the word, "water" is pronounced "wooder". The word "wash" is pronounced "warsh". So if you ever visit Baltimore make sure you say, "I need some wooder to warsh my face."

I’m a native English speaker from the United States but I still have trouble pronouncing this sound sometimes. If I speak slowly I can produce this sound but sometimes even when speaking slowly and trying my hardest to touch my tongue to the back ridge behind my teeth I will still miss it and words will sound weird. For example, if I try to pronounce the word water it will sound like wa - er. I’ve looked all over the internet but nobody else seems to have the same problem as me. I also don’t have a visible tongue tie if you were wondering and nothing else is different about my speech. If you know how to fix this I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot
@EnglishValleyCafe
@EnglishValleyCafe 5 жыл бұрын
Break down the words and practice them bit by bit. First practice touching your tongue to the back ridge behind your teeth. Next, practice saying 'der' Then, add in the other parts of the words like 'wa', 'be', 'la' It takes time to train and build the mouth and tongue muscles. Hope this helps.

Hi, after reading your comment I searched for tongue tie and realized that I might be having a similar situation. It's not a very obvious tongue tie but the movement of the tongue is still restricted. I plan to go to the dentist and have an assessment.

Im still making mistakes because after I move my tongue forward for the d sound, I struggle to get my tongue back for the r sound
@EnglishValleyCafe
@EnglishValleyCafe 3 жыл бұрын
Take baby steps. For now, focus your practice just on getting your tongue back for the r sound - do this repeatedly. Once you get the hang of it, then move your tongue forward for the d sound and get it back for the r sound. Hope this helps!
