Too bad I didnt have such a great teacher in my mid school. You helped me separate british from american in your videos. You also made clear so many things I kinda knew and could predict right forms but couldnt explain why if someone would like to ask me about it. I learnt english language actually myself. From games, movies etc. Never had anyone I could consult things with though my english speakin friends sometimes explained me things when I asked them for it. Thanks Elliott. You are fantastic person and teacher. All the best to you for such an amazing work 🙏

Hi Elliott! First time I leave a comment on any video, guess how much I like yours! I'm a Spaniard who lived in London during 2010-11 (a year studying in Imperial College London) and I had forgotten many MANY of the things I learnt when it comes to talking. My accent is still quite bad, but thanks to you I'm refreshing all I learnt. In the end, imitation (and very demanded corrections from my English friends) is the key (the way kids learn). Until now, I didn't have any models nearby, but your examples make a huge difference, so hopefully next time I travel to London, I'll be fluent again and, maybe, with a proper accent! Thank you so much!

Hi. I stumbled upon your vids thru another British English teacher. Thanks for your videos, I'm learning a lot, having English as my 2nd language. You can actually venture into audiobooks, imho because I tried listening to this video without looking since I need to do something; and I hear your clear words! It's like I'm listening to the radio! Hope you can make more videos! Cheers!

Hi Elliot! Thank you for this new lesson! I've seen other videos on KZbin, about the most common english words pronunciation and do you know what? I've been horrified, because a lot of English teachers teach the standard/strong pronunciation of the most common words, which is absurd in my opinion! We need to know how words sound in real conversation, in real spoken english! So thank you again for this lesson! I'm happy to find a good teacher as you! Bye

You know what i find weird that i've not noticed these differences in regards to the "the" word/article only when you mentioned it but i know for a fact that even though i'm not a native english speaker the brain picked up these nuances at the subcouncious level . And i found that you naturally tend to adapt as you speak without really thinking about , but i do believe that it does involve a lot of listening of the foreign language you wish to learn to be able to do that. Anyway great video ! Cheers from Romania mate haha!

Dear Elliott! I want to say thank you for your channel! My friend advised it to me as I want to sound "more British". Your short and informative videos really help me a lot to work on my pronunciation and vocabulary! However, I wanted to ask you. Please, tell me if I'm wrong. This is about the difference of pronunciation of "the"- article before vowels and consonants. I always teach my students that we pronounce [i] when there's a vowel SOUND after "the", and we pronounce [e] before consonant SOUNDS. NOT LETTERS! Of course, it is very often when a word starts with a vowel letter and a vowel sound simultaneously. The same thing with consonants. (And, as far as I know, the same rule is for articles "a" and "an"). So, let's take such word as "hour" and try to choose the correct article for it. (Let me explain using the indefinite article, that will be easier for me) . If we choose the article according to the rule that vowel letter is the marker, we will say "in half a hour". And that is definitely wrong. The correct answer is "in half AN hour" , because we take vowel SOUND as a marker. (because the word starts with diphthong and in fact has no consonants sounds at all, in spite of two consonant letters). The same thing happens with "university", "unit" but vice versa. We say "A university", "A unit" in spite of the vowel letter after the article. Because the words start with consonant sound [j]. According to the sound rule we will also say "AN umbrella" , because it starts with the short vowel sound[^]. So, "in the end of the day", LETTERS are not important for the choice. We use sounds to choose the pronunciation of the definite article "the", or make choice between indefinite articles "a" or "an". Sorry for such a long explanation, and probable mistakes as I'm not a native speaker... I'll be "over the moon" if you answer my comment. Probably you could create a video about this. It's pretty much important for non -natives. P. S. : how should we say if after "the" there is a sound [i] or [i:], for instance "the evening" or "the important fact", etc. Thank you so much anyway:))) Kind regards, ...

For a brazilian english speaker, it is very difficult to pronunciate an L in the middle of a word. Like in Miles, Tale, Middle, Wales... and the ED on words like AGED, DAMAGED, and other words terminating in AGED... if you've got a video about it, please refer it. Thank you!
