Hello what about the pronunciation of final S when it is preceded by "th" ( voiced and voiceless ). Thank you in advance
@WoodwardEnglish6 жыл бұрын
Sorry about the slightly muffled audio when I appear on screen. The microphone fell off my shirt and became slightly hidden and I didn't realize this until I started editing and it was a too late to redo everything again (especially with the heavy rain, thunder and lightning later that day).

Hi, I'm not a native speaker. I just wanna ask you about the adding 's. I'm a fool when I see some sentences from the speakers for example My heart go with My heart goes or Your heart go with Your heart goes which one is correct?
@celio87514 жыл бұрын
Hi, teacher. It sounds like that the noun "virus" is an exception for the "iz" rule. I heard some people saying that the "s" from the noun "virus" is voiceless, even though the noun ends with "s". Any comments on that?

They include more options and varieties, like for this chart the resource includes individual charts for /s/ /z/ and /iz/ and much more: www.woodwardenglish.com/resources/final-s-pronunciation-esol-charts/ When people purchase these, it allows us to create more useful resources here on KZbin etc.

No sé tienes algún video de "inversion" Es algo que siempre me ha costado y me gustaría, si algún día puedes explicarlo. Muchas gracias. Me encantan tus videos

Great! I would just add one clarification: as you state in the beginning, this rules apply for plural nouns, verbs in the third person singular form and possessive nouns, I would add that those are the only cases where this rule holds, because, for instance the word "bus" has a vowel before the "s", but it's still pronounced /s/, and this is because this word doesn't belong to any of the three groups mentioned before. Am I right? However this is the best explanation I've found so far, than you!!

The rules for both plural, present simple and possessive were combined to make a great explanation. I like your website but there is one thing that needs clarification. The part where voiced and voiceless sounds are defined is made as if the point of articulation for all all voiced sounds is the throat whereas all voiceless ones are produced in the oral cavity or near the lips. The examples given were /p/ and /f/ sounds for the latter one. How about /b/ and /v/, then? Or the glottal voiceless fricative in a different language? The difference between those is due to whether or not the vocal cords vibrate or stand apart, not where the sound is produced. If that part is clarified, this would even be a better explanation. Thank you.
@WoodwardEnglish5 жыл бұрын
This was the simplest way for me to explain the GENERAL difference between voiced and voiceless sounds without going into detail about the specifics. Had I started talking about "glottal voiceless fricative" or anything similar, I would have lost most of the audience as hardly any new learners of English know about those things. That type of perfection can be saved for a more advanced level aimed at accent reduction.

Hi, I wouldn't worry about trying to sound like a native speaker in one year. What is more important is being able to communicate and be understood. Being able to express yourself correctly is more important than sounding like a native speaker. Over time, you will naturally start speaking more like one.
