@@bevvy.bee9 The French polymath, Henri Poincaré, lead us to this idea, " fringe consciousness" or "idea incubation”. When you actively think about something too much there is noise that prevents you from finding the answer. However even when you stop thinking or focusing on the problem the subconscious keeps grinding away at it without the noise that distracts our conscious thinking. This often leads to being able to solve it when focusing again or just downright "Eureka!" moments when doing something completely unrelated.

I'd have some caution with checking contrast in a grayscale converted image. Humans see some colors brighter than others. For example, full value green looks considerably lighter than full value blue. Something to do with out eyes having more green receptors than blue. When converting to grayscale, full value blue and full value green will have the same gray value your even though we perceive those two colors at different brightness.
@grimfang44 жыл бұрын
There are alternative color spaces that do a better job of dealing with this problem. See CIELAB.
@jarlfenrir4 жыл бұрын
If it works as you described, maybe your program is not converting colors to grayscale correctly. Naive approach is to get an average of all three components, but nowadays most programs are using weights for each color. The most common equation is: 0.30*R + 0.59*G + 0.11*B so indeed even in grayscale full green is much lighter than full blue.

A way that I check my art is draw different parts on different layers (e.g. body layer, clothes layer, hair layer, accessories layer) and it helps to hide layers when I want to see if everything sorta matches up and it makes it easier to readjust if you make a mistake without having to redraw the entire section

So, there is a way to get your sprite's color palette in PhotoShop without eye-dropping, but because it's PS there's more than one step involved. Step 1: Image > Mode > Indexed Color - leave palette as "Exact" - leave matte as "None" - click ok Step 2: Image > Mode > Color Table - click save and save it wherever you'd like and give it a name Step 3: Image > Mode > RGB Step 4: Open your swatches panel: Window > Swatches - click the hamburger menu - choose replace swatches - change the file type on the right to Color Table(*.ACT) Now you have your color swatches - plus black and white. >> Credit to this short tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bairhmuCe92hhrM It seems like a lot, but it's pretty quick. Could be useful for getting palettes from other images with more than 4-10 colors.

I like making sure they are as bright as possible as well so I don't get them mixed up with the main body, which is usually grey or black
