I just LOVE orbifolias! I got a starter plant last year and it is really taking off, leaves getting bigger every day. I want a giant one! lol

What I've found is that you can propagate some Calathea if they themselves grow babies on long stems that reach above the mother plant in a similar way to a Maranta. At least my Calathea Warscewiczii did and I was able to cut and propagate it! It is a very large plant and I noticed the babies' nodes looked similar to Maranta's nodes, so I tried and it worked.

I just repotted mine today (winter time where I am) hence I am quite nervous. I have a medallion and it has been drooping for few weeks though it has 5 new growths. Its been bugging me that it might have pests in the roots or I over watered it so I decided to take it off the pot and got tempted to divide it too. (Like I already disturbed the roots so I divide it 😅) you did this video by February. That's also winter time where I am do u think mine will survive despite the weather condition? Thanks

Yes! I repot in the winter all the time hahah. It's not ideal but it won't kill it

I'm new and this is the first time coco coir was mentioned. What is that? is it recommended for Calathea's? I have a rattlesnake calathea so i want to take care of her >.

coco coir is a soil alternative made from the outer shell of a coconut that is then processed. You can use it on calathea, it is quite water retentive.

Hi! Basically whenever you repot, it slows down the growth of new leaves temporary while the plant acclimates and grows roots. So I always try to repot right after a leaf is done unfurling so that new growth doesn’t get “stuck” half formed, sometimes that causes deformed leaves. I didn’t see that there were new growth points until I unpotted. But it worked out perfectly fine! ❤️

I have wanted this over and over again I still don’t have the guts to do it. How do you know that you can split one up. Like what do you look for? How do you know it’s more than one plant

when you're unpotting, you'll see that they're all kind of clumped together. I wouldn't try to take each stem separately but to inside take a whole clump. General rule is your want roots and tubers on each section that you divide.

as far as I know, they cannot be. Only by division or by seed!

You can propagate calathea by seed as well but flowers on most calathea are not common

Yes! I assumed so, but I’ve never seen a blooming calathea - it would be so cool if I was able to get mine to produce seeds haha

Haha surprisingly this one totally didn't have any issues at all! Acclimated and started pushing out new growth super quickly!
