I took Hydrangea cuttings in 2017 and have them in my garden today. They appeared and looked their best at the beginning of my August 2020 update on my channel. The original plant was growing at my parents house in the 1960's and still going strong. Happy Growing.

In my very limited experience, hydrangeas are some of the toughest plants around. I get the feeling that you could tear off any little twig, ram it into the ground at any time of year, and expect a new rooted plant in a few weeks .

They say not to make a hole in the soil so the cutting will be tighter and make more roots and using rooting hormone won't harm, also at least two leaf nodes under the soil.

Agreed thanks for the video.........but I would use root hormone, cut right under a leaf node, bury it so the leaf node is underground, soak new cuttings in water after cutting so they don't scab over, and use perlite/vermiculite as a starting soil medium.

Hydrangeas can get HUGE in the right environment I have one that is 3-4 feet wide but I have two that havent done well about 1.5 Ft wide each.

You use soil, cocopeat or perlite! And for good drainage of the water you use a cocopeat soil mix and perlite. But take always a couple off cuttings because you can loose one or two! Not over water them, just once on 4 pr 5 days and feel the soil if it is a little moistured, and when dry give them some some water but not overwater when they don't have roots.

I have those little cups from my applesauce. I save them and soak seeds. I eat about 4 of those a day. I put the applesauce in the freezer. Its so delicious that way. I was wondering when you took the cutting out of the cup, it was a bigger cup. The other ones had died. Did you put them outside, or you left them inside, after they grew their leaves?

Just a fellow hydrangea fan....yes you can use a cutting with a bloom on it but you need to cut the bloom off and do just like video! Using a container like a storage container clear with clear top helps keep moisture in....open and spritz with water like once a week! Good Luck😊

Stems may turn black if left in water for too long. Watch the video again, cut diagonally, let it sit in water for 20-30 minutes, then place it in the soil. Be careful not to let the water dry out. However, overwatering can also kill the plant.
