So happy to find this post! Needing to propagate and harvest my tree collards and kale.

One of the things I do when taking cuttings like this is I invert an empty plastic container over the cuttings for a few weeks. Cuttings are susptible to dehydrating before they root and so the inverted plastic container keeps things moist in case I forget or it doesn't rain. It makes a mini greenhouse. I use a yogurt container, a large plastic jar, or even just a plastic bag over the top. It increases the chances of the cutting rooting.

I have kale that looks like the one in this vid, seeds were called Scarlet kale. Not sure if it's the exact same but it looks really close. I had a bad cabbage aphid outbreak on my kale and collards this winter and cut them back as you did. Tossed the tops, not thinking to root any of them because they were so infested with aphids. I left about a foot of stem on each plant and was surprised when they started putting out new leaves as I didn't know regular kale and collards(not tree kind) would do that. Surprisingly most all of the Cruciferous veggies will just keep on growing. Thanks to you, I now know that I could have used the stems as cuttings. Free plants sure are nice :)

Hi Robbie. I love your videos. I feel like I'm listening to an old friend. Great gardening methods I'm going to try this year. I like that you garden all over the yard. I live all the birds you bring in and share your food with. Going to $ Tree and get some pots and white baskets. Please keep making your videos. God bless you and Gary.

My huge green tree collard fell over and gonna try the same thing. I neglected it enough that several places the fallen over stem has rooted and have upright branches trying to grow. Heading out now to see what can be salvaged. Thanks for your help :)

AWESOME video 👍. Helpful knowledge. Shame on me, I thought after the season ends I should pull them up. Now I know to not dig the plants up in hot As. I'll just cover and trim back

I grow tree aeonium "Schwarzkopf", which is the purple succulent you were talking about. They do grow more purple in full sun, and greenish purple in the shade. All the Best!

Hi Robbie, fun video, good tips, thanks. I'm on my second case of those wastebaskets. I order a case of 48 at Dollar Tree online for $48 and they deliver to the local store (saves shipping cost). They are sure handy with all the ground critters we have, gives me a fighting chance! Also, thanks for all the rain you're sending our way... it's beautiful in the Tucson desert now... but keep the cold and snow please... sheesh we may have more snow tomorrow night. Our desert critters don't know what to make of it!

Robbie try using dawn dish detergent and water and spray both sides in the evening for mildew aphids and fungus. You can also try a small amount caution hydrogen peroxide and baking soda with water for severe problems. I hate these tiny critters when they decide to come and become an invasion on something good to eat and enjoy. Feeling much better but my bronco pneumonia is so slow to heal and the cold in north east is terrible and the global changes is causing many problems. Do have a wonderful day and I hope the kale comes back purple comes back purple.

Hi Robbie, can you post an update? Did any of the stocks without leaves or the head root and propagate? I'm in a similar spot with mine and curious how I should proceed.

I could not find an appropriate video to ask this question. I’m moving out if state next year. I want to propagate my Van Houte Spirea to take with me along with my Lady Banks roses. Do you have a video that shows this or can you tell me how to do it? Thank you sooo much!!!

I would cut it down the stem to just below the split and dried part. It will most likely turn into a Bush type shape, which is what I prefer. A bush shape will give more accessible leaves.

Question. I’ve got a Nero di Tuscano or black palm. It has 1 stalk. If I cut it off will that stalk die or will it grow new leaves. This is the ONLY kale the cabbage moth does not bother and it has great flavor. I don’t want to kill it but would like more

I bought 4 tree collard cuttings last year and tried to root them and all four of them died. I even used rooting hormone, but they only developed the tiniest little hair roots in 8 weeks and then just died. I kept them watered, but not soggy. I just don’t know what happened. It was a big waste of $20. Very disappointing.

How deep of a dish of water would you put a one gallon container in for a self watering system? Thanks
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy5 жыл бұрын
Just an inch or 2, as the soil inside the pot will wick it up through the holes as the soil starts to dry out if you do not water it, thanks so much, Robbie

Why not cut it all the way down and just use the top to regrow. That specimen had been neglected for some time but is a plant that has vigorous growth by nature even in that environment. You are very fortunate to live in an odeal climate to grow anything it seems. Never a challenge for you to get plants designed it seems to hrow best in your part of the country.This is something those of us in the heat of the south would love to have. Kudos to the purple tree collards for persevering.

Hey robbie :) was wondering if you've ever taken fall tree leaves and put them over your seeds? I tried it today with my seeds i planted out in the garden on sunday cause i noticed that my soil was drying out right after putting water down but now im kinda ify on if the seeds will be able to make it up and thru the leaves.
