Today I will show you how to propagate a pothos houseplant by node cutting. I show how to easily propogate golden pothos, but this can be done with most other plants as well! Of course there are some exceptions. Anyway, I prefer to propagate plant cuttings in sphagnum moss using a propagation box! propagation sphagnum moss propagation box propagation station

Thanks so much for the video. I only knew how to do it the one cutting in water way. I didn’t know you could do it like this. I’m learning so much about plants that I never knew and I’m 66 years old. Didn’t have an interest in them until I retired. Too stressed out working and driving every day. I’m really enjoying this time of my life and learning new things.

Hi I'm new to your channel and I'm loving the way you propagate your cuttings I was wondering how to go about doing that I have a satin pothos as well is starting out very beautiful and full when I first bought it during cold season that we've had it kind of wilted my leaves on the plant so I remove the bad leaves my stems are still healthy and strong I have three long stems each one of them has leaves at the end and I was wondering how do I go by Saving this plant in cutting the stems to make new growth to get it back to being a full bushy plant so now I watch your video I'm going to try that and can't wait for the outcome

The leaves are not a drain. They literally produce energy in the form of sugars to power growth. To me it's completely counter productive to remove them and expect this to improve growth. It has the opposite effect; it will slow it down. Ps; I'm a horticulturist that studied plant science. It's frustrating to me to see this advice everywhere and the assumption that leaves are a drain to be removed completely from cuttings. There is some dehydration from leaves which is why we often reduce leaf area when taking cuttings, so that the dehydration is reduced while awaiting new roots to rehydrate the growth, but that is the only reason to reduce leaf growth on cuttings. Clearly all methods work in the end due to the vigour and pure will to live from plants, but it isn't helpful to reduce the part too much that actually makes the sugar from photosynthesis. sorry, rant over. this really bugs me, lol!
@TeffyBabyy
@TeffyBabyy 2 жыл бұрын
@@finflwr well, first things first... Thank you. That was actually extremely informative!! I am not a horticulturist but love studying plants in propagation and anything to do with Horticulture and have been "amateurly"(i know thats not a word lol) doing so for about 8 years now... I keep the leaves on until Roots grow and a new Leaf starts to sprout, and then I will take off the original Leaf from the node. I'm going to see if you have a channel because if you do I will be subscribing 😂💚

Harli, it was last year, I think, when I learned from one of your videos that you could propagate a node without a leaf. I was shocked. Now I propagate both ways but I must admit that watching a leafless node grow roots and leaves is so satisfying. Thank you for sharing. Also, Thank you for being one of the minority of plant tubers who will mention ways to drive plant prices down. I'm sure there are many people who are upset with Costa Farms for mass producing highly desired overpriced plants. But that's how I was able to obtain the ZZ Raven, through Costa Farms.

I had no idea you could propagate this way and I've been looking to do so with my pothos, monstera and philodendron for a bit. the philo is going nuts at its' nodes, rooting already, etc. and I just needed to know how to properly cut them so I did not kill them during the initial propagation process. Thank you!

I watched your video about your propagation boxes and got the moss recently. I had already put a monstera node in some soil and perlite, but transferred it to moss in a propbox. It has a small grow point when I left 6 days ago, now it has a leaf!! 😀 I'm very excited! It got too tall for the lid to fit, so now I've put a small plastic bag around it to form a dome. I'm going to travel for about 10 days, so hopefully the dome will keep the moisture up so it won't dry out and die when I'm gone.

I'm a beginner when it comes to propagation, but I also prefer to have single leaf cuttings and plant several into one container to have a fuller plant. At the moment I'm propagating a golden pothos, I put all the individual leaf cuttings in water and was left with a few bare nodes. I don't have sphagnum moss, so let's see if I can get those to root in regular potting mix! I'm excited to see how the experiment goes ☺️. Thanks for the video! I also liked that you showed us the 1 month update, those tiny leaves look so cute! Have a nice weekend everyone ☺️🌱

I'm not sure if you've tried it before because I've only seen you use a soil mixture and I've been curious about trying it. It seems easier to manage and maintain than soil but there isn't a lot of clear information about it on youtube. I also know you use liquidirt and I do too after watching your videos and don't know if it would be good with leca because I've seen others use ph balancing solutions and such. Love your videos btw!
